How proud we all were of the children at our graduation ceremony today as they sang and danced to celebrate their achievements this year in Nursery. They showed great confidence to perform to their families and then to walk on stage on their own to shake hands and receive their certificates. Thank you to Mrs. Alexander for taking time to present each child with their award – we think her knees must have been very sore by the end of the day. Thank you also to all the family and friends who attended our little ceremony and for your support throughout the year.

Harvest
Earlier this year some children and their families worked together in a Family Learning project to plant vegetables at home and in the raised beds in the Nursery garden. Today they returned to the beds to harvest some of their crop. As you can see, they had great fun making faces with their vegetables as well as tasting them. (It really seemed a bit warm to make soup as planned). It’s interesting how some children won’t normally eat vegetables but they enjoyed tasting those that they had grown. Thank you to Eileen, as always, for providing her super Family Learning activities.
Photo Comments
Carmen’s family have been enjoying the photos of our butterfly artwork and the children visiting Primary 1:
“Carmen enjoyed colouring in her butterfly. I asked her how we could make a large, medium and small butterfly. “She replied, I could draw a medium one and an even smaller one and put them together so they are cuddling each other”.”
“I asked Carmen if she enjoyed going into P1 classroom today? She sayed she loved it and enjoyed listening to the story that Mrs Lindsay read them. She thought Mrs Lindsay was a lovely lady. She did say tho that there wasn’t many toys. Aw!! I’m sure she may pop back into nursery to have a little play.”
We love having little visits from the children when they are in Primary 1 and we’re sure that Carmen will find lots to play with once she’s settled in.
Do You Play, Talk and Read With Your Child?
Education Scotland is highlighting the importance of playing, talking and reading with children. Parents, carers and families make a positive difference to a child’s learning and your support can play a vital role at all stages of your child’s education.
The latest PlayTalkRead campaign, including a television advert to be shown during World Cup games, was launched on Father’s Day.
The PlayTalkRead campaign’s summer activity is part of the Scottish Government’s focus on the early years of children’s lives – encouraging and supporting parents and carers to play, talk and read more regularly with their little ones.
For more information and advice for parents and carers to support literacy at home, please visit our link on the right to the Parentzone website or have a look at the PlayTalkRead website at www.playtalkread.org/
Bring Your Parent To Nursery
All the children love it when a parent or grandparent comes to join in a Nursery session and it’s great that several parents have come in to play in the last week or so. There are still a few weeks left to take the chance to see what the children do in their time in Nursery and everyone is very welcome to stay and play any day. As you can see, it will probably put a huge smile on your child’s face and you will doubtless have great fun too.
Sticky Kids
We would like to remind everyone that tomorrow, 9th June, is our outing to see the “Sticky Kids” show. Children should arrive in Nursery at normal times and we will travel by bus. We are taking a snack so the children will not need anything with them apart from their singing voices. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to accompany us. We are delighted that we have space for all the volunteers.
Police Station Visit
Liam’s Mum has commented on our visit to the police station:
“Great morning. All the children were fab. Thanks for letting me come. Liam had a great time. So did I.”
We always find it an interesting visit too. We’re glad you enjoyed it.
Police Station Visit
Recently we were able to take the children to see what the inside of a police station is like and to learn about a police officer’s job. Many of the children tried out the cells and enjoyed using the controls of the CCTV cameras. We also saw the rooms where interviews take place and fingerprints and DNA are taken. The police van, of course, was particularly popular, especially when the children were able to try out the blue light and the siren.
Thank you to all the parents who came with us on our visit and to the police officers for taking time to show us round. We are delighted that they commented on everyone’s super behaviour. Several children thought they would like to be police officers in the future so perhaps we will see them patrolling the streets of Annan in years to come.
Here you can see some of the morning children in action on their visit. We will post photos of the afternoon children soon.
Happy Day
Sophie’s family enjoyed our Fun Activity event:
“we had a lovely morning on Tuesday such a nice way to do a sports day it made it a really fun and positive experience for the Children and everyone seemed really happy. We were very proud of Sophie, she was a little shy that we were there watching but also very confident in her abilities. All the staff were great too, well done Everyone!!”
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. How lovely that you felt that everyone seemed really happy.
