Balancing Challenge

An obstacle course always provides a great outdoor challenge and lots of the children love helping to design a course themselves. This little activity provided the opportunity to develop the children’s balancing skills and some even took on the additional challenge of carrying cups of water along the course. What great concentration you can see on their faces as they try to get to the end of the plank without spilling any water.

Snack By The Fire

The weather was kind to us towards the end of last term and both rooms took the opportunity to have a fire and an outdoor snack. The children have quickly learned the safety rules when we have a fire and it’s a great opportunity for them to develop their social skills as they tend to sit and chat a lot round a fire.

Outdoor Adventure

The nature area at the front of the school provides a great opportunity for a little adventure as part of our day in Nursery. As well as building confidence in the wider school environment, the children love visiting this super outdoor area be it for a story, a game or simply to explore nature to investigate the signs of the changing season.

Autumn Hunt

The children in the Raindrop Room have had a few walks out in our community lately. This one, not far from Nursery, was to find Autumn leaves for their artwork. It may look green all around them but this group was very successful in finding lots of leaves of many colours to bring back to put to good use in Nursery. Autumn certainly seems to be with us.

Colour Mixing

Experimenting with paint to make different colours is great fun especially when done on a bigger scale outdoors. Here the children created their own colour mixes sending different colours of paint down the pipes into big bowls then observing the effects. A few little ducks joined in the fun and were sent down the slides to splash into the newly created pools of colour. What a busy morning this was.

Weather Watching Equipment

During the course of last year our weather watching equipment slowly felt the effects of lots of use and was no longer suitable for the children to observe weather changes so we decided to make new equipment ourselves. Here you can see a group in the Rainbow Room garden carefully using the tools to make their own rain gauge. They tested it out with bowls and scoops to make sure that the rain would travel down the tubes and were pleased with their work so we now have a super new rain catcher in the Rainbow Room garden. Why not have a look at their work on your way to or from Nursery?
