Sharing

The children in the Rainbow Room have been talking about sharing – who they share with, what they share and what they do not like about sharing. We would like to share some of their thoughts.

Primrose: I share with my sister. We share dolls.
Berrie: I share with Frankie. I don’t like to share my Barbies because she doesn’t share hers.
Layla: I share my ‘Greedy Granny’ game with Mummy and Daddy.
Euan: I share with Arthur and Isaac.
Maja: I share with Olivia at the shops.
Poppy: I share my cars with Alfie.
Zack: I share my bike with Kaius and Isaac.
Freddie: I share toys in Nursery with Tom and Jackson.
Sophie G.: I share with Belle. I share Mack and Tombliboo.
Jackson: I share the trains with Tom.
Arthur: I share my cars with George. I don’t want to share my drum kit – it might break.
Lily T.: I share my toys with Isla.
Isaac M.: I share things with Euan.
Millie: I share my bike with Teddie.
Alex: I share my Lightning McQueen toys with Finlay.
Tom: I share with all my family. I share all my toys with Jackson and Freddie. I won’t share my drum kit and guitar – I don’t want them to get dirty.
Leigha: I share some of my Barbie toys.
Paisley S.: I share my bunny with Priya.

Selfies Of Emotion

Towards the end of last term the children in the Raindrop Room spent time talking about their emotions and learned how to take ‘selfies’ on the I-Pad as they tried to convey different emotions through facial expression. We would like to share some of their thoughts and their super skills with technology.

Anthony: I’m happy ’cause I just like Nursery and playing with everything. I hide from spiders, I feel scared. You have a sad face if someone sits on you.
Freya: I’m happy when I’m drawing Dad. I cry when I’m sad.
Joely: monsters make me sad.
Barclay: I’m sad when I’ve got no friends. When I play I’m happy.
Mason: I’m happy when I’m being good. I’m angry when people are being very very naughty to me.
Kyla: jigsaws make me happy. I get angry if my big brother annoys me.
Fern: I was sad when Daddy left (Nursery) today.
Sophie E.: I’m happy when my dinner comes. I like chips. When Mummy and Daddy make cupcakes then I feel in love.
Ella: I’m happy when I have a chocolate spread sandwich for breakfast. I’m excited when I play with my friends. If I’m feeling sad, I cuddle in to my Mum and she helps me feel better.
Marnie: I’m jealous when Alice has a pencil that I haven’t got and I want it. I feel happy when Kara plays with me.
Skye D.: I’m sad when someone doesn’t be my friend. I’m happy when Lola plays with me.
Kara: I’m angry if somebody a little bit pushes me. I’m happy when someone hugs me. I’m nervous if something really scares me.
Isaac W.: I like riding horses. It makes me happy. I’m only scared of bats ’cause they fly about in your face.

I wonder if you can work out how the children are feeling in their ‘selfies’?

Letters To Santa

I wonder how many children have written letters to Santa? The children in the Raindrop Room have been writing to him recently.
However, this was not a letter with a big wish list but a letter telling Santa how they have been helpful and kind. If you click then click again on the images below, you will be able to read some wonderful letters. No wonder Santa paid us a visit with some parcels – what a lot of kind and helpful children we have.

Prize Winner

Tilly’s family was pleased to hear that she won the nursery rhyme competition:

“Aww Tilly was delighted to win the nursery rhyme competition especially after an emotional start! We are enjoying singing the rhymes in her new book and reading to her wee bear who still has no name! Thank you!”

Well done Tilly! I wonder what name you will choose in the end for your little bear?

Reading Is Fun Together

Children, parents and staff gathered together last week to celebrate the official launch of Hecklegirth Nursery Library. The launch promotes ‘Reading is Fun Together’. The children who joined us, with their families, received a Teddy Bear each to take home, to help and encourage reading together. The Nursery Library is stocked with over 200 books, all donated by Nursery and School families.
This is the culmination of a series of events to promote literacy both in the home and at Nursery. Parents and staff worked together to create five key ‘Words Together’ messages with the aim of raising awareness of good communication skills to support their child’s development in literacy.
Mrs. Eileen Johnstone, Lifelong Learning Co-ordinator, and Mrs. Jen Carruthers, Nursery Nurse, have worked with families to model and promote the communication skills in weekly story and rhyme activity sessions.
Lots of lucky little bears headed home last week to enjoy listening to stories shared with our children. If you would like to be part of our library project and take home a reading buddy to care for, the library will be in the Rainbow Room at 9.00 on Wednesday mornings and in the corridor on a Thursday. Lots of little bears are waiting to visit your homes. Apologies that we forgot to draw the prize winner of the nursery rhyme competition but, as you can see, Santa helped us out with that later in the day and the prizewinner received her prize.

Reading Is Fun Together

We would like to remind you about the official opening of our library on Thursday 5th December between 9.00 and 9.45.
We are starting a “Reading Is Fun Together” project to go along with our library. Thanks to a kind donation from the Hecklegirth Fundraisers, we have beautiful teddies which need temporary homes (teddies will be returned to Nursery at the end of the year). These teddies need to be read to every day, and we hope your child will enjoy having a teddy/buddy to listen to stories with. The mince pies are bought and our little teddies are waiting to make friends with your child. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday morning for the official opening of our project.
