Well done to those children who have brought letters and numbers from home for our display. Our display sheets are filling up now but there’s still room if anyone else wants to bring more in to Nursery. Remember to keep an eye out for letters and numbers when you are out and about – some of you are getting good at telling the difference between them.

A Special Invitation
Some of the children in the Sunshine Room were very busy this morning making a graduation invitation for Mrs. Alexander. There was some fantastic writing and lovely drawings to make it special and Mrs. Alexander was delighted to get her invitation. The children have been practising their songs and are looking forward to performing them to everyone on Tuesday.
Clever Crocodiles
What a lovely start Mrs. Lindsay had to her birthday when a group of Nursery children paid her a visit in Primary 1. Mrs. Lindsay was very impressed with their work on the crocodile story – making crocodiles from playdough and bricks as well as super drawings of the characters in the story. Some of the children even helped Primary 1 to tell the story themselves. Thank you Mrs. Lindsay, Mrs. Waugh and Primary 1 for a great visit.
Do You Play, Talk and Read With Your Child?
Education Scotland is highlighting the importance of playing, talking and reading with children. Parents, carers and families make a positive difference to a child’s learning and your support can play a vital role at all stages of your child’s education.
The latest PlayTalkRead campaign, including a television advert to be shown during World Cup games, was launched on Father’s Day.
The PlayTalkRead campaign’s summer activity is part of the Scottish Government’s focus on the early years of children’s lives – encouraging and supporting parents and carers to play, talk and read more regularly with their little ones.
For more information and advice for parents and carers to support literacy at home, please visit our link on the right to the Parentzone website or have a look at the PlayTalkRead website at www.playtalkread.org/
Outdoor Learning Is Fun
Now that the children are well settled in after their Easter holiday, they have been spending lots of time in the Nursery garden, having fun in their learning. Many children have been enjoying searching for the flagstones with letters on to match to their alphabet notes and some have been working well in teams to plan and build dens. As you can see they are very well focussed on the task in hand and excited to learn.

Future Careers?
As the children have been finding out about the various jobs that are available to them in the future, they have begun to think about which career they might be interested in. Here are some of the ideas from the children in the Sunshine Room.
Malachi: I want to be in the police and look for money and cash that people have lost.
Ava W.: I want to be an Annan swimming teacher.
Suzie: I want to work in a Nursery.
Robbie: I want to work in a garage and fix tyres.
Deryn: I want to work at the cinema.
William: I want to be a builder. I’d be working in a crane.
Lexi: I want to be a queen and I’d tell the people what to do.
Jessica W.: I want to be a ballerina teacher.
Tom: I think I want to be in the police.
Carmen: I’d like to work in a shop to put make-up on.
Sophie L.: I want to be a shopkeeper in Tesco.
It will be interesting to see how many of them fulfil their wishes in the future.
World Book Day
To celebrate World Book Day, the afternoon children paid a visit to Annan library today. They enjoyed Tina’s stories as much as the morning children had and were also keen to share their ideas when we discussed some of the stories. It was super to see that Tina had some dual language books and we enjoyed hearing the Polish words for the different animals when we read “Dear Zoo”. Thank you to the Polish parents who helped us to translate and thank you to all those parents who took the time to come to the library with us. Without your help we would not be able to take the children visits outside school. If any parent would like an application form to allow their child join the library, we have some in Nursery so please just ask.
Library Visit
The morning children paid a visit to our local library today as part of learning about our community and to celebrate World Book Day which is on Thursday. Everyone seemed to enjoy the super stories read by Tina and there was plenty opportunity for the children to discuss their own ideas after each one.
Lots of children seemed to be familiar with the library and hopefully more may join after their visit today. Thank you to all the parents who came along with us. We really appreciate your help. Thank you also to the children for making us very proud of you – your behaviour was excellent on the walk there and inside the library.

Love Is In The Air
Last week we talked about Valentine’s Day and what it means. The children were keen to share their ideas on who they love and why. We also discussed what they could do to show someone that they loved them. We thought that you might enjoy a few of their ideas.
Ava V.: Auntie Sarah reads me stories. I love my family and friends. I can give them hugs to make them happy.
Archie: I love my baby brother and draw pictures for him.
Bethany: you can tickle them to make them happy.
Finlay: I give my Granny a big kiss.
Dan: I could make sandcastles for them.
Freya: be nice. It makes them happy. Mum took me to Disney On Ice. I got a special dress.
Riley: we can give them kisses to make them happy. My Mum takes us to the park.
Ben: Grandma gets me toys and lots of sleepovers.
Max: I get lots of cuddles and kisses.
Sophie S.: my Mummy gives me cuddles. I love my Daddy too. I make him pictures of me.
Darcey G.: I give Mummy cuddles.
Theo: we go to the ice hockey together.
Mikey: I love my Mummy. She gives me hugs.
Rhyme Time
The children and parents who came to the Family Learning activity last week seemed to enjoy making rhyme bags and rhyme mats with Eileen Johnstone, our Family Learning Co-ordinator. You can see some of them looking very happy with their work below.
As several of you indicated that you could not make that day for various reasons, Eileen has arranged another opportunity for you on Friday 22nd November (9 – 10 or 2 – 3). If you would like to attend, please add your name to the list on the Family Learning notice board in the Nursery corridor.
We would also like to remind you that if you want a story, rhyme or number bag they can be collected from the Family Room (opposite the school hall) on a Thursday at 11.30 or 12.30.
