This week’s “Word of the Week” is cocoon as we keep an eye on our own little cocoons. I wonder how many of the children can use this word?

Happy Smiles
Here are the happy smiles of two of our recent award winners. Very well done to both of you.
Word Of The Week
As we look forward to our whole school Health Week, with lots of fun activities planned for everyone, our “Word of the Week” this week will be ‘healthy‘. Hopefully we will have a better understanding of what it means to be healthy at the end of this week as well as feeling happy and healthy after taking part in the various activities.
Family Learning
Our PEEP sessions with Eileen, the Family Learning Co-ordinator, started again last week and, when I popped in, this little group was enjoying a story and various activities linked to seeds which supported the learning they had been doing in Nursery. They will now have cress as well as a sunflower to look after so they are going to be busy little gardeners.
The first morning session is planned for Tuesday of this week and Eileen will have an afternoon session again on Thursday. We hope that those taking part have lots of fun.
Word Of The Week
Our “Word of the Week” for this week will be symmetrical. We will be looking at what symmetrical means as part of our activities in Nursery and it will link to our learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.
Award Winners
Very well done to our award winners from last week. Keep up the good work!
Word Of The Week
This week’s “Word of the Week” will be ‘artist’ as we look at the work of Vincent Van Gogh. I wonder how many children will know what an artist is by the end of this week?
Compost
Letti and Oscar’s Mum has been hearing them use our “Word of the Week” which is compost.
“I heard all about the kids putting compost in, then seeds, more compost and they each had their names in the pots. Letti and Oscar have been helping Mum planting at home this week too!”
Well done Letti and Oscar for using our word at home and what a good description they gave of what they have been doing. Well done for helping with planting at home too – you have both been very busy this week. Hopefully we will be able to post some planting photos soon.
Word Of The Week
Last term, as a school staff, we took part in Word Aware training, which is a structured whole school approach to develop the vocabulary of children.
It is estimated that the average child learns 2000 – 3000 words per year every year throughout their schooling which equates to six to eight words a day on average. Children with good vocabulary go on to become good readers and vocabulary has a major impact on all areas of learning.
As part of our work to support the development of the children’s vocabulary, we will be including a “Word of the Week” in our planning and will focus on the appropriate use of that word in the Nursery environment. Sometimes the selected word may arise from a child led discussion and at other times it may be linked to our learning focus. We will share this word on the Nursery blog so that you can share in the fun with words at home.
Our first “Word of the Week” will be compost. I wonder if you can guess what we are planning to do next week?
Story, Rhyme And Number Bags
Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, continues to run the “Story, Rhyme and Number Bags” on a Thursday. However, she is now working from the Family Learning room (outside the school hall) due to our current building works.
If you would like a bag to take home, please go to Eileen’s room as previously on a Thursday. If you still have a bag from last term please return it on Thursday of this week. We hope that lots of our families make use of this opportunity and thank Eileen for her support with this valuable activity.
