Certificate Stars

A few children have been awarded certificates over the past week or two in Nursery. Some have received them because they settled well in their first few weeks, others for being kind and helpful but all these children deserved their awards and seemed proud of their achievements. Well done boys and girls.

Scissor Skills

The craft area has been particularly busy this week as our learning has focussed on developing fine motor control, particularly when using scissors. The children are all at different stages of development but most have shown great motivation to work on holding the scissors correctly and to control them when cutting. We hope that they will enjoy further developing those skills at home. Here is a selection of their work from this week.

Joe’s Crumble

Joe’s family is pleased that the children enjoyed making crumble with their apples:

“Oh wow that looks like so much fun.
Glad everyone got to make something tasty.
Joe was very proud of his crumble and thought it tasted delicious.”

Thanks again for your contribution. The children thoroughly enjoyed turning the apples into crumble and were very keen to taste their cooking.

Kacey’s Having Fun

Kacey’s family has been enjoying the photos on the blog and left a comment about the recent Family Learning activity:

“Kacey and mummy really enjoyed decorating a square for the wall , we will definitely be coming back to the next activity.. Thank you.”

Kacey had also had fun making her apple crumble:

“Kacey loves cooking/ baking she was so excited when she came home!”

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a message. We are pleased that Kacey’s enjoying lots of different activities in Nursery.

Thank You Joe

We had a lovely surprise this week when Joe W’s family brought us in lots of apples from their tree so we decided to make crumble. The children were able to develop their learning in lots of areas – learning about the importance of hygiene and safety in the kitchen, fine motor control, counting and chopping skills, using the technology of a microwave and the effect of heat on the apples.
Hopefully you can see the children demonstrating some of their new skills in our photos. Mrs. Alexander was certainly pleased with the crumble we took her as a surprise and we hope that the children enjoyed theirs too. Thank you very much to Joe’s family for bringing in the apples – you provided us with a great opportunity for fun learning.

Vegetable Harvest

For those who were involved in last year’s growing project, we thought that you might like to see the vegetables that were lifted from the raised beds this week. Despite a hot summer holiday when the beds were not able to be watered, there still was a selection of vegetables to harvest. The children had great fun pulling them out and some spent a long time searching for the smallest carrot which was quite a competition.

Messy and Creative

Joe H’s Mum has been talking about what he enjoys in Nursery:

“Joe’s favourite activity at nursery is outdoor play. He enjoys getting messy and creative in the garden. Joe says he can’t wait to play in the snow!!!!!!!!”

The outdoors area is great fun and Joe loves it. I can imagine how you’re feeling about the snow Joe but I’m not sure we want it just yet. I wonder what other children enjoy best in Nursery?
