Thank You Isaac

Mrs. Irving would like to share this message for Isaac W.:

“I was overwhelmed this morning with the kindness of Isaac and his Daddy as they dropped some delicious home baking at my door. What a generous and thoughtful act of kindness! Isaac, you have brought a huge smile to my face. Scott, Eve, Coll and I all say a big thank you!”

How lovely to hear about such kindness in our community. Isaac, your baking looks absolutely delicious and we are sure that Mrs. Irving and her family will thoroughly enjoy it. You should feel very proud of yourself for being so thoughtful and kind.

Kim’s Game

Do any of you remember playing Kim’s Game when you were younger? This is a simple, fun game to enjoy with your child at home and will develop his/her memory skills, concentration and ability to take turns.

Encourage your child to choose a small selection of items (4 – 6 initially) from around the house and sit them on a tray or a table.

Cover the objects with a towel then see how many items that your child can name.

Once they are confident to do this, ask your child to close their eyes, take one item away from under the towel and see if he/she can say what is missing.

Take turns as a family to take an object away.

If your child needs a further challenge, you could take two objects away or add to the number of items on the tray.

We hope that you have lots of fun playing together.

Support For Parents And Carers

You may have heard Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland, mention yesterday that the Solihull Online programme is available free to parents and carers to help them learn what their children may be going through at this time and to help develop nurturing and supportive relationships.

We would like to share a link to information on this below and would also draw your attention to some helpful links to Solihull Approach leaflets on the right of this page under “Useful Reading”.

As it is Mental Health Awareness Week, we would also like to share these very useful posters which provide clear and simple advice to support families during these challenging times and hope that they help everyone to stay healthy.

Make Your Own Skittles

Some of you may have skittles at home but, if not, why not try to make your own? It’s a great game for strengthening your muscles, improving your control and developing your hand-eye co-ordination.

All you need are some empty bottles and small balls (or socks).

  • Add some water to each of the bottles to help them stand up.
  • Arrange your bottles on the floor.
  • Roll your socks into balls if you have no balls at home.
  • Roll the ball towards the skittles and see how many you can knock down.

Think about what would happen if you added more water to the bottles.

What would happen if you moved further away from the skittles?

Why not write some numbers on the bottles then see who can make the biggest number when you add up your scores?

Mental Health Awareness

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme this year is kindness which is something we always focus on in Nursery. In these difficult times, it’s never been more important to be kind to our family and friends but also to ourselves, both adults and children alike.

We would like to share this short video from the Mental Health Foundation to remind us all to look after ourselves and others.

Uniform Day

Today is Uniform Day for Hecklegirth which is a little different from our fun non-uniform days of the past. Here are a few of our staff taking part and looking like they are all happy and ready for their normal working day. Mrs. Mackay’s and Mrs. Carruthers’ daughters have even joined in at home with their own uniforms.

We would love to see photos of any of our children who may be taking part today. Please send a photo to the school address below and it will be forwarded to us to share with others on our blog.

Exercise For All Ages

Mrs. Irving loves your video Summer and has left you a message.

“Go Summer! What a Champion Hula-hooper you are! Thank you for sharing your video. Like you, I’ve had fun practicing my hula hoop skills during lockdown. My 74 year old mum has also been hula-hooping for her daily exercise! What a brilliant sport for all ages to enjoy 😊”

I wonder if Mrs. Irving and her Mum are as good as you Summer? Keep up the good work all of you.
