Playground Buddies
As those moving to Primary 1 at Hecklegirth in August are now building relationships with their individual Primary 6 buddies, we have a timetable in place for the children to visit the school playground as well as the infant classrooms. The buddies go with our children on these playground visits to encourage and support them initially in the empty playground and then when the rest of the school is out.
We have already had two visits and Primary 6 showed impressive skills and attitude to ensure that our children had great fun and felt confident in the wider school environment. Thank you Primary 6 for doing such a super job. All the children came back to Nursery from the playground happy and confident. They are looking forward to their next visit when the rest of the school will be out to play with them.
What Can You See?
The children in the Rainbow Room have been looking very closely at their faces in the mirror as they talk about what they can see and try to draw their own faces. As part of their close observation, the children decided what colour their eyes were and added a tally mark on the chart to record their findings. They found that, in their room, blue was the most common eye colour. As well as producing great drawings of their faces, we loved some of the children’s comments so would like to share them with you too.
Tiana-Rose: I have two eyes, eyes blink. Our eyes are to see. I have a tongue and teeth inside my mouth. I’ve got baby teeth. You blow noses.
Jackson: I see two eyes, a nose, a mouth, a finger, two eyebrows. I see with my eyes.
Lewis: my eyes are blue on the inside. I’ve added yellow around my eyes as it looks like skin. You close your eyes to sleep. I have two nostrils. Some people have different coloured eyes.
Euan: I eat with my mouth. My tongue is in my mouth. I see with my eyes. I listen with my ears. Look at my big enormous head.
Jake: I’ve got a big head now, a huge head. My eyes are big, mouth, teeth big, my hair’s big … big blue eyes.
Emily M: I’m making a big smiley face. I’ve got brown eyes and another colour in my eyes.
Filip: I’m bigger now … brown eyes … one, two eyes. I’m not sad, I’m happy.
Our Local Community
As part of learning about our local community and the people who work in it, this group of children from the Raindrop Room investigated what shops were on Annan High Street and what they could buy there. Of course, our local community includes the park near our Nursery so they all enjoyed a little time there on their journey back and, as you can see, everyone seemed to have a great time.

Visits To School
The children who will soon be making the transition to Primary 1 at Hecklegirth have had a recent visit to the infant classrooms to get a taste of school life. As you can see, they settled in well and were confident to try out a range of activities. Thank you to Miss Campbell and Mrs. Mahon for making the Nursery children feel so welcome. They are looking forward to their next visit soon.
Medals And Lollies
Thank you so much to all family and friends who took the time to cheer on the children today in the gorgeous sunshine as they enjoyed their activities on the school field. Thank you also to the group of super buddies who were great helpers and supporters of the children.
We are sure that, like us, you felt very proud of the children as they confidently showed off their skills and great teamwork. We managed to capture photos of some of the children with those well deserved medals and ice lollies as they relaxed back in Nursery after their hard work. We hope that you enjoyed the day as much as we did. Well done boys and girls – you really showed yourselves to be ‘confident individuals’.
Fun Activity Event
The children have been practising their running and jumping skills to prepare for our Fun Activity event tomorrow (Thursday). They have grown in confidence, shown good teamwork and had great fun. We are looking forward to lots of families and friends cheering the children on as they show you what they can do. We hope to bring them on to the field around 9.30 when they will start moving round their activities.
It is quite tricky to get photos of the children practising their activities as they move so quickly but here is a taster of what they will be doing on our Fun Activity event. Fingers crossed that the sun continues to shine tomorrow.

Growing Seeds
As we begun our learning about growing and to talk about the changing seasons at the end of last term, the children in the Rainbow Room planted cress seeds. They showed great care with their seeds and many showed good knowledge of what they needed to do to make them grow. The good thing about cress is that it grows very quickly so we soon had a little box to taste with our snack and, of course, we all know that things you make yourself always taste better.
