Our Community

Visits out in to our local community are always popular with the children and those in the Raindrop Room had several walks out towards the end of term to find out about our local shops and businesses. They found out about the buildings on our High Street and took a trip to Tesco where they were very excited to have a look at the Hallowe’en displays. Learning how to pay at the self-serve till and the decision about where to put their tokens was all part of the experience.

Hands On Technologies

Lots of our children love developing their Technologies skills and have been learning how to safely use a hammer. They experienced challenge as they had to follow instructions to stay safe, have an awareness of risk and show concentration and perseverance with this tricky activity. Hammering the nails into the wood and then positioning the elastic bands on their work, to form shapes, helped to develop the children’s motor skills. What a great sense of achievement the children have after this activity – it’s no surprise that it’s always very popular.

Outdoor Adventure

The nature area at the front of the school provides a great opportunity for a little adventure as part of our day in Nursery. As well as building confidence in the wider school environment, the children love visiting this super outdoor area be it for a story, a game or simply to explore nature to investigate the signs of the changing season.

Staying Safe

As the children from the Raindrop Room have been out and about in our community, talking about the different jobs and businesses in Annan, the local lollipop man came in to Nursery to talk about road safety. As you can see, the children had a little practice to help them focus on how to stay safe. Thank you so much to our lollipop man for taking the time to come to chat to us.

Germ Busting

Just like the children in the Rainbow Room, those in the Raindrop Room recently used the machine that uses UV light to show up germs. Although the children thought that they had washed their hands thoroughly they were amazed to see evidence to the contrary when putting their hands under the ā€˜magicalā€™ light of our germ busting machine.
Sophie: I missed my nails. The light shows glitter bug gel.
Tilly: I need to wash my hands again. Itā€™s still between my fingers.
Skye D.: I missed my wrist.
Paisley: I used soap to wash my hands. I missed the back.
Skye B.: the glitterā€™s on my hands. I need to wash my hands again.
Leighanna: I missed a bit so am going to try again. Wash your germs away or youā€™ll get ill.
Lola: itā€™s on my fingers. Itā€™s not sore using that magic machine.
Noah: you canā€™t see all germs. Iā€™ve missed my hand here.
Barclay: Iā€™ve missed my finger.
Kara: Iā€™ve cleaned them. Iā€™ve washed the germs.

Hunt The Germs

After learning about how to wash their hands properly, the children in the Rainbow Room were able to check how well they had cleaned them by looking at their hands in a special machine that uses UV light to show up germs. As you can imagine, some of the children were surprised that they still had germs showing up on their hands so hopefully everyone will be making an extra super effort with their hand washing from now on.
