Three Cheers

Three cheers for adults and children alike who braved the cold wind today to join in our Fun Activity session. We thought that we should perhaps have had hot chocolate as a treat instead of ice lollies but hopefully everyone still managed to enjoy themselves. We are sure that, like us, you were all very proud of the children taking part in their activities. They showed fantastic behaviour, evidence of the skills that they had learned and a great team spirit. Thank you to everyone who came to support us today and thank you also to Primary 7 who were so helpful and polite. Most of all we have to say very well done to all the children of Hecklegirth Nursery – you were wonderful and fully deserved those medals.

Running, Jumping and Balancing

Running, jumping and balancing are some of the skills we have been practising for our Fun Activity session on Friday. The children have enjoyed working together in teams to take part in a range of activities on the school field. We hope that lots of families will be able to encourage the children on Friday when they show you what they can do. Let’s just all hope that the weather is kind to us.

Health and Hygiene

Rachel, our School Nurse, paid us a visit last week to teach the children about a healthy lifestyle. We talked about exercise, healthy foods and good hygiene as well as the importance of sleep.
A special magic machine then helped us to check how good we are at washing our hands. The children had to wash their hands, apply the “magic spray” then check under Rachel’s special machine to see if they could still see any germs. I think they were quite amazed to see that their hands were not as clean as they thought so, hopefully, handwashing should be more thorough from now on.

Ollie’s Allotment

Further to a recent comment about Ollie’s allotment, his family have sent us a reply telling us what he grows there:

“We grow lots of things at our allotment, potatoes, onions, leeks, onions and lots more. Just let us know when you would like to visit. A Thursday and Friday are good for us.
On another note- it was very exciting to come home from work yesterday and hear all about safety with electric. Ollie totally understood all the reasons for being safe when around electric. Well done nursery staff- great work with little children as usual.”

Ollie’s allotment sounds like a brilliant place to visit especially with us having our own growing project in the Nursery garden. Hopefully we will be able to arrange a visit soon – our diary is at the ready and we will speak to Ollie’s Mum or Dad about it soon.
We’re glad that our learning about safety around electricity has also been successful. The children were very interested in this topic and we hope that this should show in their everyday lives.

Thank You

Thank you to Bethany’s grandparents for their lovely comment on Noah’s visit to Nursery:

“Great to keep up the contact and see a school that encourages partnership with the local community. Everyone was smiling and having fun in a real world learning context. Thank-you for all your hard work and effort that is noticed, and makes Hecklegirth a welcoming place to visit.”

It’s certainly true that we do have fun in our learning and all family members are very welcome to come and join in our play if they would like. Thank you for taking the time to visit our blog from afar and for leaving such a kind comment.

Well Done Ollie!

Ollie’s family has left a comment on his photo:

“Ollie was super excited with his certificate this week. He has also been enjoying looking after his courgette whilst growing at home. He would love to show some of the children our allotment when the weather gets a bit better.”

Well done Ollie. You really deserved that certificate with your super knowledge of the body. We like the sound of a visit to your allotment. I wonder what you grow there?

Message from Noah

Noah and his Mummy have left all the morning boys and girls a lovely message:

“Noah really enjoyed his morning with the nursery children. All the children were very gentle and kind and really made him smile! We are glad we could help you learn a bit more about looking after babies!”

Well done everyone. You must have made Noah and his Mummy feel very welcome in Nursery.

Congratulations!

We had three Star Award winners last week in Nursery and they were all very well deserved. One was for showing super knowledge about the body and two showed very good understanding of how to look after a baby. Very well done all three of you. You certainly impressed us with your knowledge.

Look Who Came to Visit

Two lovely little visitors came to Nursery last week to help us learn how to look after a baby and talk about how we had changed since we were babies. Bethany and her Mummy brought in her little brother Noah and Dawid and his Mummy introduced us to his little brother Mason. Both babies seemed happy to help us and Bethany and Dawid also showed themselves to be a brilliant big sister and brother. They were very good at keeping us right when we thought that babies can eat pizza and go to the toilet. Thank you to Noah and Mason (and their mummies of course) for being such wonderful little visitors who helped us to learn lots.

Fantastic Gardeners

Thank you to those of you who have been bringing in your courgette and pea plants which have grown from the seeds you planted with your families at the end of last term. You have obviously been looking after them well at home and they will be super additions to our garden growing area. Eileen is amazed at the size of some of your plants and will see you soon to find a space for them in our raised beds. Well done you fantastic gardeners. I wonder if anyone else has managed to make such a good job of looking after their plants?
