As part of discussions about their emotions, those in the Raindrop Room were learning about how important it is to be kind to others and to think about their feelings as well as our own.
In a quiet corner a little pamper area was set up to help everyone relax and feel happy. As well as enjoying the sensory experience themselves, lots of children were being kind to others and using the products on other children and adults. The smells and smiles were just wonderful as they tried everything out.

Self-Portraits
As the children in the Raindrop Room spent time talking about their emotions, some worked on producing a self portrait to express different emotions. You may have noticed their display in the corridor but we thought we would share a selection of their work here.
Certificates
Very well done to last week’s award winners. You thoroughly deserved your certificates and we are very proud of you both.
Buddy Day
Buddy day is when groups of Primary 6 visit Nursery children to play with them. The buddies are beginning to get to know our children and are doing a great job. It’s lovely to see the older and younger children chatting together as they begin to build relationships. We are looking forward to lots more visits in the future and hope that Primary 6 enjoy their visits too.
Skilled Bakers
Our children are becoming so skilled at baking that they are keen to try lots of new recipes on a regular basis. This session in the Rainbow Room involved learning to make rock buns which required different skills from using the food mixer but the children listened well to instructions and successfully produced a batch of tasty buns. I wonder if any of you have been trying out any baking or cooking at home?

Our Emotions Tree
The children in the Raindrop Room spent time recently talking about their emotions as part of a Wellbeing focus. Some of their thoughts were collected on an emotions tree to display in Nursery. We were impressed that the children were able to talk about their emotions and are beginning to understand what can cause them.
Ella: I feel happy when Mummy takes me to the park.
Summer: I’m scared of cobwebs and spiders.
Noah: I’m scared when Daddy puts the light out.
Luca: I’m happy when music is playing.
Freya: I’m scared when I have a bad dream.
William: I’m happy when my friends share with me.
Skye: I’m happy playing with Lola.
Emily: I’m happy when I’m outside with my brother Archie.
Mason: I’m scared of monsters.
Macaulay: I’m scared when Mummy turns the lamp off.
Violeta: I’m happy when I play together with Summer.
Barclay: I’m happy when I go to soft play.
Hot Chocolate
Most children love outdoor play, regardless of the weather, and lots of them don’t seem to feel the cold like us adults but these children were certainly grateful for their delicious hot chocolate drinks on a chilly day. I wonder why food and drink always seem to taste so good outdoors?
WaterAid
As part of our global citizenship, we have water containers for the children to add any spare coins to make a contribution to the charity WaterAid and we are delighted that some have already kindly put coins in our bottle.
WaterAid is an international not-for-profit organisation, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. They work in 38 countries across Africa, Asia, Central America and the Pacific Region to transform lives in some of the world’s poorest communities.
Around 289,000 children die each year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by dirty water and poor sanitation. That’s nearly 800 children each day, or one child every two minutes. We would like to make a small contribution to make a difference for these children by collecting any spare change you may have.
If you would like to find out more about WaterAid, you can visit www.wateraid.org, follow @WaterAidUK on Twitter or visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/wateraid.
We would appreciate your support in our efforts to help the children in this project and any spare coins in our water container will be gratefully received. Thank you to those who have already been kind enough to make a contribution.
Stay And Play
The children love it when an adult from one of our families comes in to play and it was no exception when Skye’s Mummy stayed to help us bake scones. She gave the children lots of tips, as she often makes scones at home, so some delicious scones were produced in our kitchen that day.
We would love it if lots of grown-ups from our families stayed to play. You don’t have to provide an activity, simply join in the play and have fun to experience what a typical session is like for your child in Nursery. Why not just stay for an hour or so when you drop your child off or just pop in for a quick visit when you have a little free time? The children and staff would love you to stay and play any day.
