Thank you to Imogen’s Mum for posting a lovely comment about our “Children in Need” day.
“It was lovely to see all the children dressed up in spots and wearing their pudsey ears. Imogen was very excited to be dressing up and unusually was ready in plenty of time for Nursury! Well Done everyone for raising all that money for children in need”.
We were seeing lots of spots before our eyes on Friday when everyone joined in the spirit of “Children in Need”. We are delighted to say that Hecklegirth School raised £192 on the day, with Nursery contributing £59 of that so thank you to everyone who donated.
It’s been great to see Nursery children bringing in so many Tesco vouchers to add to the school collection and everyone has enjoyed going along to the foyer to pop their vouchers in the box. The vouchers will be sent off at the end of the scheme to be exchanged for a range of equipment. In the past, Nursery has been lucky enough to get resources such as musical instruments and a table for the garden so these vouchers are certainly valuable to us all. Thank you to all our families who have contributed so far.
Along with many schools and nurseries throughout the country, the children celebrated “Mini Pots of Care Day” on Wednesday by decorating pot wrappers for the daffodils they had nurtured over the winter and then taking their pots home to someone they care about.
We were also delighted to be able to present a large cheque to Sheena from Marie Curie Cancer Care, thanks to the generous donations from families and friends. Even after we had written our large presentation cheque, more donations came in and the children have currently raised an amazing £549.35. Thanks to Sheena and Henry the bear for explaining how our money will be used and a huge thank you to all those who contributed to our wonderful total.
As you can see from the photos, we all looked after our daffodils very well. We hope they survived their journey home in the windy weather.
Sometimes in Nursery we play a game called “Who’s in the Box?” but this week we played a guessing game of “What’s in the Box?” because when the afternoon children came to sit on the carpet, a mystery box was sitting waiting for them.
There were lots of ideas about what could be inside – a slide, a train, lots and lots of stickers, an elephant and even a Loch Ness monster. It was very exciting opening the box especially when we found another box inside the big one. Someone even thought it might be a trick. However, once the shiny red metal started to show and a wheel appeared from all the wrapping paper, we realised that it was a new bike for the garden.
Once Miss Kerr had put it together for us, everyone was really pleased with our mystery parcel. It’s certainly been good to have something new to try out in the garden, thanks to extra money raised from last term’s enterprise project. Little did we anticipate what the demand would be for the children’s calendars when we planned to raise money for our Christmas party but it’s certainly brought a smile to everyone’s faces now that we have been able to buy a new bike too.
Nursery continues to be a very busy place as we practise for our concert and delve into the glitter tub to make decorations and cards. The calendars are also almost finished so everyone who placed an order should have them by the end of this week. Thank you so much for you support in this activity: we have been quite amazed by the number of orders but the children have risen to the challenge and patiently fulfilled all requests.
We are pleased to say that the children’s pot pourri bags seemed to be popular at the Christmas Fayre and most of them were sold. It was also lovely to see so many of you attending this very successful event. A magnificent sum of £1000 was raised on the night so thank you to all who contributed.
If Santa gets stuck for helpers at this hectic time of year, we feel sure that our children would make very good little elves as they have been working so hard over the last week or two. With two enterprise activities running at the same time, Nursery has been a busy and exciting place.
Thank you to all those families who have ordered calendars to help fundraise for our Christmas party. Some children have shown great patience to make the large numbers ordered and we hope that you will be proud of their end product. Most calendars are now ready to pick up: you will get a note soon reminding you of the cost, if you have not yet paid, and they can be collected whenever you wish.
With the Christmas Fayre on Wednesday 7th December, we have also had lots of children keen to make pot pourri bags for the HFA event: we had quite a little production line going at times. We hope that some Nursery families will be able to attend the fayre to support the hard work carried out by all the children and parents of our school. As you will have seen from the letter home, there will be a wide range of activities to enjoy and we have heard a rumour that Santa might be available for photo opportunities.
This week the children took part in Marie Curie Cancer Care’s “Mini Pots of Care” fundraising activity. Throughout this activity children learn about science and nature, while developing a sense of responsibility and raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Each child was given his/her own pot and daffodil bulb to plant in Nursery and, hopefully, the children will be sponsored to care for it until it blossoms in spring. You can watch their progress with your child as the pots are now in the Nursery garden. We will celebrate their daffodils on Mini Pots of Care Dayin February, by painting pot wrappers. We hope that the children have fun taking part and would be delighted if you chose to sponsor them in this activity.
Please remember that it’s “Wear Something Spotty” day tomorrow, Friday 18th November. Our suggested donation is 50p to go towards “Children in Need”. Cakes and sweets will also be on sale for 20p so the children can bring a little extra money if they would like to visit the cake stall during our Nursery session.
Our Fun Activity Day started with a huge surprise when we were presented with a very generous cheque, as well as a beautiful bench and weather vane for the Nursery garden. We would like to extend huge thanks to everyone who organised, contributed to or took part in the secret sponsored walk to raise this amazing amount of money for our Nursery. We feel quite overwhelmed by this generosity and are considering carefully how to spend your donation wisely.
Despite a mixture of sunshine and showers, the children continued happily round the fun activities and seemed pleased to show off their skills to family and friends. They worked well together in teams and showed good support for each other. Primary 6 did a great job of encouraging and praising the children and Callum, Active Schools Co-ordinator, helped us enormously by managing everyone’s movement round the field.
None of this would have been possible without the enthusiastic participation of the Nursery children who, as always, made us very proud of their excellent behaviour on an exciting day. Well done boys and girls!
