WaterAid

As part of our global citizenship, we have water containers for the children to add any spare coins to make a contribution to the charity WaterAid and we are delighted that some have already kindly put coins in our bottle.
WaterAid is an international not-for-profit organisation, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. They work in 38 countries across Africa, Asia, Central America and the Pacific Region to transform lives in some of the world’s poorest communities.
Around 289,000 children die each year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by dirty water and poor sanitation. That’s nearly 800 children each day, or one child every two minutes. We would like to make a small contribution to make a difference for these children by collecting any spare change you may have.

If you would like to find out more about WaterAid, you can visit www.wateraid.org, follow @WaterAidUK on Twitter or visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/wateraid.

We would appreciate your support in our efforts to help the children in this project and any spare coins in our water container will be gratefully received. Thank you to those who have already been kind enough to make a contribution.

Music At Our Fingertips

We are delighted to say that, thanks to great fundraising efforts at Christmas when so many of our families contributed to the hamper raffle, we have been able to purchase a Wonderboom portable Bluetooth speaker for each room in Nursery. This will allow us to have music anywhere we like both indoors and out. The children have already been enjoying the benefits of this outdoors recently when staff have kindly lent us their equipment but now that each room has one you may hear all kinds of music floating from our gardens – nursery rhymes, bagpipes, Chinese dragon dance music … we have the world of music to choose from.
Thank you very much to all those who kindly contributed to this fundraising event. We feel sure that this purchase will benefit all our children.

Visit From Shelter

What an enjoyable visit we had today from Julie and Kerry-Anne from Shelter where they shared information about how they help local families who are experiencing difficulties around homelessness. Our children showed themselves to be responsible citizens and were able to identify how we can help families in need by donating items such as non-perishable foods, toiletries, books and toys. Should you wish to support Shelter you can pop your gifts in the box at Nursery.

Hamper Squares

We would like to remind you that tomorrow, Wednesday 11th December, is the last day to return your hamper squares. We really appreciate all the generous donations we have received and have several super prizes to be won on Monday. You may have seen the lovely hampers sitting out in Nursery but we also have two bottles of champagne with chocolates, a Ted Baker toiletries set and two vouchers to be won by lucky ticket holders. Thank you so much for your support.

Learning With Chocolate

The children in the Rainbow Room have been making chocolate shapes to sell as a little enterprise project. Initially a group of children went shopping to buy the ingredients, helping them to understand the purpose of money. Back at Nursery, discussions about what would happen when we put chocolate in the microwave then the fridge provided the opportunity to develop the children’s science learning and they also used numeracy skills to count the squares of chocolate when preparing their chocolate shapes. Of course there was also the opportunity for a little tasting as some of the children enjoyed the age old tradition of “cleaning” the bowl at the end.
We can certainly recommend the chocolate shapes to anyone who has a little money to spare – at 50p a bag we think that they are a tasty buy so watch out for the children’s basket of shapes in Nursery.

Christmas Hampers

Thank you very much to all parents and staff who have contributed to our Christmas hampers and also to those who have returned their raffle squares sheets. We hope to receive more donations to add to our hampers in the next week or two so that we have some lovely prizes when our numbers are drawn at our Christmas singing event on 16th December. Squares can still be returned next week too. Thank you for your support.

Children In Need

“Wear What You Want Day” on Friday raised a generous sum of £260 for Children In Need while providing the children with the opportunity to come to Nursery in a wide range of outfits. Don’t they all just look great?
