Brilliant Buddies

Thank you to Primary 6 for being brilliant buddies to the children who will start Primary 1 at Hecklegirth in August. They have written lovely, thoughtful letters to some of our Nursery children and their families and they certainly made the children feel at ease when they came to play with them last week.

Thank you to Mrs. Johnstone, Miss Dennis and Primary 6 for smoothing the transition process for our children. We feel sure that their families appreciate your kindness.

Jubilee Celebrations

We feel so lucky that the sun shone on our Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Monday. The children looked fantastic in their red, white and blue outfits and some even had their faces painted or Union Jack flags with them too.

The cake decorating was a little messy, as you can see from the photos, but great fun and the teddies seemed to enjoy being in Nursery for the day. We had games in the sunshine and our day was topped off when so many parents came back early to sample the children’s cakes. Thank you, as always, for your support – the children get so excited when they know that their families are coming to see something they’ve done.

We seem to have so many lovely photos of the day and hope that you enjoy our sample below.

Bring Your Teddy to Nursery

We would like to remind you that everyone can bring a teddy to Nursery tomorrow (4.6.12) for our teddy bear’s picnic to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.

Children can wear red/white/blue if they wish and they will be decorating cakes during the session for their picnic. If you would like to pick your child up ten minutes early, you will be able to sample their cakes which we are sure will please the children very much.

Fingers crossed for a sunny day so that we can have some games and our picnic outdoors.

Beautiful Butterflies

There have been some beautiful butterflies appearing in Nursery this week as everyone has been having fun decorating them at home with their families. What a lot of fantastic ideas you all have! Some children used glue and collage materials, some painted or used crayons and one even used his feet to paint his butterfly. If you look carefully in our photos you can also see Suzie’s fantastic butterfly that she painted on the Nursery Promethean board.

The children have been keen to talk about their wonderful creations and we have spent time discussing which ones are the same on each side and which are different.

To add to our excitement of learning about butterflies, a very special parcel arrived today in Nursery. We are now the proud owners of five little caterpillars so we may produce some real butterflies of our own in a few weeks. Please ask the children to keep you posted on their progress.

Sunshine and Smiles

It was all sunshine and smiles for our Fun Activity Day this week. We were  lucky with the weather which helped to make everyone so happy and the children certainly had beaming smiles on their faces as they had fun at the various activities. It was great to see them all working together for their team and trying their best. We certainly felt very proud of them all and, judging by your comments and the super support the children had, we feel sure that you felt the same. Thank you so much to everyone for coming to cheer the children on. We think they thoroughly deserved their medals and ice lollies after all their efforts.

Working Together

It’s been great to see Nursery children bringing in so many Tesco vouchers to add to the school collection and everyone has enjoyed going along to the foyer to pop their vouchers in the box. The vouchers will be sent off at the end of the scheme to be exchanged for a range of equipment. In the past, Nursery has been lucky enough to get resources such as musical instruments and a table for the garden so these vouchers are certainly valuable to us all. Thank you to all our families who have contributed so far.

7 000 Visitors

Since our blog started in October 2010 we have seen it grow and become a valuable tool to provide an insight into the life of Hecklegirth Nursery.

In April of last year we added a Clustrmaps counter to our page to measure the number of visitors to our site. We are amazed and delighted to notice that we have now had over 7 000 visitors since April 2011. As you can see from the red dots, if you click on our map, we have had visits from 41 different countries in that time. We are particularly delighted to have had 35 visits from Poland and hope that we are helping some of our children’s families to keep in touch with what happens in our Nursery, despite living a distance away.

We really appreciate the comments that you have made on our posts as this adds to the blog and helps to make it a fun, shared site for us all. Let’s hope that everyone continues to enjoy our blog as much as we do.

Families Learning Together

We are delighted to say that our Family Learning event last week was very well attended. “Healthy Snacks and Happy Faces” seemed to be a great success for everyone who took part and it was lovely to see families able to enjoy some fun learning together, particularly when children were from different classes.

Families from Nursery, Primary 1 and Primary 2/1 all attended our session, enjoying delicious healthy snacks of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries on oatcakes and soft cheese. There was friendly advice available and a selection of helpful leaflets as well as the opportunity to make a happy face using food pictures.

We hope everyone enjoyed this aspect of our “Healthy and Happy Week” and are very grateful to Eileen Johnstone, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for, yet again, organising an event which made everyone feel welcome.

Healthy Snacks and Happy Faces

We would like to remind you that tomorrow (26.4.12) is our “Healthy Snacks and Happy Faces” event organised by Eileen Johnstone, Family Learning Co-ordinator. Those who have expressed an interest will be able to join their child to try some delicious snacks, pick up some recipe/information leaflets and help him/her to make a happy face picture.

Some P1 and P2 children and their parents will be joining us so we are looking forward to a fun time as part of our Early Years “Healthy and Happy Week”.

Happy Easter

What a fantastic display of decorated eggs we had in Nursery last week thanks to all your efforts at home. We were delighted that nearly every child had spent time with their families decorating eggs and we all enjoyed talking about the different ideas on display. Mrs. Kelly was so impressed that she brought Primary 4/3 to Nursery to see our display. We gave them a few ideas for decorating their own eggs and they were certainly full of compliments for our efforts.

Click on the photos below to see some of the children’s super eggs. We hope that you are all enjoying your holidays and wish everyone a Happy Easter.
