As part of our learning about the senses, lots of our children took part in our suggested home activity of creating their favourite foods on a paper plate. We have had lots of good discussions about everyone’s ideas of what tastes good and are building up an impressive display in the corridor of the children’s work. Thanks go to all the families who encouraged their children to take part in this activity. We hope you enjoy looking at their ideas.

Happy Customers
Now that some of the children’s calendars are getting finished and being sent home, we are finding some happy customers.
Madison’s Mum certainly seems happy in her recent comment: “the calanders are lovely, and a good idea for raising money, and madison enjoyed doing it x”
The children are enjoying decorating them and they quite like posing for the photos too. Don’t worry if you’ve not got yours home yet – it’s a busy production line but they will all be ready in plenty of time for the end of term.
Come and Play
Thank you to those parents who have come in to join in a Nursery session this term. The Rainbow Room and the Sunshine Room have both had visits from several parents and the children just love it when you come and play. Why not put your name on the grid in the cloakroom to join in?
Finlay’s Daddy left a comment saying how much he enjoyed himself when he came to play: “Finlay really enjoyed his Daddy getting to watch him in Nursery today, Its great that parents get invited to do this, Finlay’s Dad said he had a really fun morning and what a brilliant nursery it is and the staff are so friendly.”
Finlay and his Mum had fun
Another lovely comment about Eileen’s Family Learning activity from Finlay’s Mum. It sounds like everyone’s had a good time.
“Finlay loved decorating his footprints for the Diwali activity, it was such a fun morning with Eileen and the other children and their Mummy and Daddy’s, I think I had just as much fun as Finlay with the glitter. Thank you Eileen.”
Family Fun
It was great to see lots of parents and children taking part in our recent Family Learning activity which linked to our learning about Diwali. As promised, here are some photos of you decorating your footprints and some lovely examples of your designs. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves so we hope that you’re looking forward to Eileen’s next activity.
In the meantime, remember that you can collect an activity sack on a Thursday to take home for the week.
Ollie and His Mum Enjoy Family Learning
Thanks to everyone who came to the Family Learning activity today.
Ollie’s Mum left us a comment saying, “What a fun morning with Eileen , mrs carruthers and the other children and their mummy’s decorating our footprints for Diwali. It’s great to be involved. Thank you.”
I hope to put some photos on the blog in the next few days. It certainly looked like good fun so thanks go to Eileen for organising this activity for us.
Family Learning
Our learning this week is focussing on Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. We would like to remind you that Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, is offering an activity linked to this on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th November. You can come along with your child to the learning room where the activity bags are given out and have fun together. Younger brothers and sisters are welcome too.
Eileen has put a notice up on the Family Learning board in the corridor beside the Rainbow Room’s cloakroom – simply add your name in the
time slot that suits you to take part. We hope that lots of families enjoy this activity. It’s a great way to have fun with your child and perhaps make some new friends.
First Days
We have had a super start to our year, as we begin to get to know our new children and their families, as well as welcoming back the familiar, happy faces. After two short taster sessions, when the children have had fun and begun to try out a variety of activities, they will now attend for the full session from Monday, 27th August.
As the coming weeks unfold, they should grow in confidence in their new environment. However, if your child takes a little while to feel comfortable, please allow him/her time to take things at their pace: we, as adults, cope with change in different ways and at different rates and children are exactly the same. If you have any concerns, please speak to staff who can offer you advice based on their experiences.
Once we have blog permission slips returned, we will be able to put photos and examples of the children’s work here. We hope that you will find this a valuable insight into your child’s experience of Nursery and that you will share in the life of the blog by adding a comment by clicking on the word ‘comments’ underneath the post title.
10 000 Visitors
Since our blog started in October 2010, it has grown and provided an opportunity for families to gain an insight into the life of our Nursery. In April 2011 we added a Clustrmaps counter to measure the number of visitors to our site and we are delighted to say that we have now had 10 000 visitors in that time. If you click on the small map you can see that we have had visitors from 46 countries. We are particularly delighted to have had 57 visitors from Poland and hope that we are helping some of our children’s families to keep in touch with what’s happening in our Nursery, despite living a distance away.
We really appreciate the comments on our posts as this, hopefully, helps to make it a fun, shared site for everyone. We hope that our new families starting later this month will enjoy this valuable tool and will continue to visit our site in the future.
Happy Graduation
Lots of happy, smiling faces greeted our parents on Friday when we held a small graduation ceremony to celebrate the end of our year in Nursery. The children were very excited to sing for their families and they certainly showed themselves to be ‘confident individuals’ and ‘effective contributors’ as they performed their songs and then came individually on to the stage to shake hands and receive their certificates from Miss Wilson. We felt very proud of them all.
Thank you, as always, to all our families for fantastic support in everything we do. The children have been delightful to work with this year and we will miss all those who are moving on.
