Evelyn’s family enjoyed the photos of the children decorating our Christmas tree:
“Aww. Evelyn loves decorating for Christmas. Done a lovely job at home. xx “

Parents and practitioners working with young children are often puzzled by some of
their children’s actions.
Why do some children have a fascination with running water and flood the
bathroom?
Have you ever given a present to a child and noticed he/she is more interested in
the box rather than the toy?
Have you ever noticed a child painting themselves or other people?
Have you ever noticed a child paint or draw a lovely picture then cover it
completely in paint?
A schema is seen to be a pattern a child demonstrates through their actions, language or play. While a child may play with a variety of toys, a pattern may link these seemingly disassociated activities. Schemas indicate the child’s focus in an activity. By identifying a child’s schema we can plan learning in ways that most interest them. We form our schemas during childhood as a way to make sense out of our world.

Tomorrow is Tuesday so it must be time for our Rhyme and Story Family Learning session again. Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, has been enjoying working with some of our families and would be happy to have more join her at 9.00 or 12.15 each Tuesday. Here is a little snapshot of the activities they enjoyed the last time they met.
Jasmin’s family has been looking at the photos of our Rhyme Snack Time:
“We had a great time, thank you!”
Thank you very much for joining us. We know that everyone has busy lives so it’s great when families can join us.
As promised, here are photos of the afternoon children and their families enjoying their “I’m A Little Teapot” snack time. Thank you to everyone who took the time to join us. Staff and children loved having your company. Please remember that you are welcome to come and play in Nursery any day with the children.
As a celebration of World Nursery Rhyme Week, we held an “I’m a Little Teapot” snack time for our families and it was lovely to have so many parents, grandparents and younger brothers and sisters joining us. As well as a tasty pancake and fruit snack, the children enjoyed some drawing activities at the tables and everyone joined in when we sang “Five Currant Buns” and “I’m a Little Teapot” as our focus rhymes.
Thank you so much for joining us and for your feedback. It seems like this is something that everyone would like to do again so we will keep that in mind when working together with Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, to plan future activities. Thank you to all those who attended for making this a happy event for the children and thanks, as always, to Eileen for organising such a super event. Here is a gallery of our morning snack time. We will post photos from the afternoon soon.
We would like to remind you that tomorrow, Tuesday 20th November, is the day when you have been invited to join the children for a nursery rhyme snack time as this week is World Nursery Rhyme Week.
There will be tea, coffee, scones, butter, jam and fruit for all to share, including younger brothers or sisters, and we look forward to all singing our rhymes “Five Currant Buns” and “I’m a Little Teapot”. Snack will be served around 9.00 and 2.00. We look forward to seeing you there.
Tilly’s family has been looking at our firework art:
“Olivia thinks her little sister’s firework picture is fabulous and really cool!”
It’s lovely to hear that Olivia is looking at our blog. We love the firework art too. Well done Tilly.
Robin’s Mummy has been looking at our photos of art based on tearing paper:
“Love this. Robin has been showing me and his daddy at home how to correctly tear paper!”
Well done Robin! It’s good to hear that you are passing on your skills. I wonder if your Mummy and Daddy will be able to make pictures as good as yours?
Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, sent us photos from today’s family activity, saying “We had lots of fun today at our elephant themed story/rhyme time.”
This looks like great fun. Please remember that all are welcome every Tuesday from 9.00 until 9.45 or 12.15 until 1.00, including younger brothers and sisters. Eileen hopes to see you there soon.
