From Alfie To Grandma

Alfie from the Raindrop Room has sent us a wonderful picture of his work that he has sent to his Grandma. His family said,

“Grandma lives a long way away. So we sent her her very own Alfie. We drew round Alfie which he found very ticklish then Alfie painted himself complete with glasses & crazy hair! Grandma can now wrap Alfieā€™s arms around her whenever she needs a cuddle.”

They also wrote a lovely poem for his Grandma which you can see attached to his picture. What a thoughtful gift for your Grandma, Alfie. We think that you will have made her very happy indeed. Thank you so much for sharing your super work with us. It’s lovely for everyone to see what you have been doing at home.

Kyla’s Super Work

We are delighted to share some super work that Kyla has been doing at home with her family. As you can see, she has produced some fantastic writing with drawings to illustrate her work and has also sent us her oil pastel of a rainbow toucan. Kyla’s brother has been learning about the rainforest and he wanted to draw a toucan so she joined in.
Well done for your super work Kyla! We are very impressed. Thank you so much for sending us it. Kyla’s family say that she is missing everyone just as we are missing all the children but it is great to see the super activities that you are doing at home.

Food Fun

In Nursery we often talk about healthy and unhealthy foods as we prepare snack together and the children are developing an understanding of the difference between them. They have talked about some foods being good to eat lots and some less often. Most have grown in confidence to try different foods as the year has progressed and fruit and vegetables, for example, are a regular part of their snack time each day.

As a fun game, get the children to look at a range of foods in their kitchen and see if they can sort them into healthy and unhealthy foods. They could then sort fruit and vegetables (fresh and tinned) into those they like and those they do not like.

In the past we have looked at the work of artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo who created faces out of food in his work. It’s always great fun to try this with the children using foods, or anything else you have available, to create a face. Maybe you could create one from things you find outdoors? We would love it if you sent us photos of your work via the school office at

We would like to share this Sticky Kids video about eating fruit and vegetables for the children to sing and dance along to as they play. Sticky Kids is very popular in Nursery so the children will no doubt love to join in. Refresh our page to see the video again.

We would like to give you a little reminder that for those who might be looking for ideas of activities with their children while we are closed, the website Twinkl is offering free access to their resources. We attach below a screenshot from their site which may be helpful to you.

Bike Art Prizewinners

Mr. Palmer has a message for everyone about the Bike Art Competition.

Good afternoon everyone. Well done for all your Bike Art entries this week as part of our Big Pedal Competition. I was very impressed with all the entries. There were some really creative finished bikes using a wide variety of materials and household items. It was nice to see lots of you ride your bikes as well. It was a very difficult decision to decide a winner and runner up so I asked my children to help me. The winner for the Nursery and P1 competition is Emilia Baxter from P1. The runner up is Jasmin and her sister Freya from P1/2 and the Nursery. Well done girls. We will get your prizes to you as soon as we can. The winning entries will be shown on the School App shortly.

Congratulations from everyone in the Nursery too and well done all those who participated.Ā

Science Is Cool

Here are some cool scientists trying out an experiment at home. This looks like great fun! Apologies to our little scientists that your video ends up on the side. We can’t seem to change this but this think that everyone will enjoy seeing your super science.

Photos From Home

We have had a super update from one of our families about what they have been doing while we are closed.

“V is been busy with her sister playing , learn do some art crafts she makes vase for the flowers with a can because she loves flowers, yesterday I talk about the super heroes and she doesn’t really no very well what’s a hero so I explained and she said he all can be heroes because he all can help each other. Here some photos show what we have doing. We hope you are all ok, and see you soon”

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely photos and for giving us news of what you have all been doing at home. It looks like you’re having a wonderful time. How thoughtful to say that we can all be superheroes by helping each other. It is great to hear from you and we hope that we see you soon too.

Isaac’s Tadpoles

In a post yesterday it was mentioned that one of our families plans to care for tadpoles in the next few weeks. You may be interested to see this bowl of tadpoles which Isaac W is caring for as part of his little tadpole project at home. We hope that you send us a photo of their development in the future so that we can all see how they are progressing.

Creating Memories Together

We would like to share this lovely gallery from one of our children, showing what she has been doing at home while Nursery is closed. We think that you will be amazed at how busy she has been.

She has been doing a lot of biking…4 miles a day to be precise! She is very fast, in fact can beat her mummy!!!

The family has been keeping busy in the garden, doing crafts, creating a fairy garden, redesigning her play house, planting plants, creating potions, weeding and painting lots of stones from the shore!

They created an Easter window display for a competition at her big sister’s school, it kept them busy for days!

They have been baking and decorating lots of cupcakes then enjoying eating them and sharing them with their elderly neighbours who they have been checking in on! With some help from her big sister she even made her mummy and daddy dinner one night! The family also made ice cream sundaes as a treat!

As always this little girl has been doing lots of role play with her sister! Midwives, teachers, princesses, hair dressers and they even set up a Spa and a Cinema to watch the new Trolls movie!

She loved watching the clip of Mrs Maxwell reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar which is her favourite bedtime story so she created a picture of the ‘fat caterpillar’ for her.

Their next project is growing butterflies and caring for tadpoles! Let’s hope they are as successful as last year!!

What a super time you have been having, creating wonderful memories together. We look forward to hearing about the butterflies and tadpoles once they start growing.
Thank you so much for sending us your photos and lots of news about what you have been doing with your family. We love to hear from everyone. Keep having fun and learning together.
