Growing Families

Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, has left a message for our “growing families”:

“Thanks to everyone who came to the growing families session last Thursday – I hope all your seeds are sprouting at home. Don’t forget to bring your soup bowl pictures back to me after the easter holiday. Looking forward to seeing everyone who is coming to the session on 24th April. Happy Easter hope you all have a lovely holiday”

Hopefully the rain has helped the seeds you all planted in the Nursery garden. All we need now is a little sunshine.

Family Learning

Thursday saw the first activity session for the “Growing Families” project organised by Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator. Children and their parents enjoyed a story about growing and investigated seeds and shoots before cutting and sticking pictures to show how vegetables grow. Then it was off to the Nursery garden to plant onions and carrots in our raised beds. I wonder if they will show any signs of growth when we return to Nursery after the holiday?
Christine from the Positive Parenting Project group joined our sessions to introduce herself as she is planning to start a project in our Nursery next term for all parents. We would like to welcome her to our Nursery and hope that she enjoys working with us all. You can see Christine enjoying the outdoor planting in our photos.
If you like the sound of the “Growing Families” activity, there are some places left for the first Thursday of next term (24.4.14). Simply add your name to the list on the Family Learning board above the blue group cloakroom area. Thank you, as always, to Eileen for organising this activity. We hope that lots more families enjoy it next term.

Growing Families

We would like to remind you of the start of a project called “Growing Families” on Thursday 3rd April. This will be a joint Family Learning and Nursery project about vegetables and how to grow them. Our initial session will involve reading and discussing the book “Growing Vegetables”, making a soup bowl picture and planting seeds either in our raised beds or to take home.
Sessions will be in the family room with Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, and there are still a few spaces left (see the notice board in the corridor above the blue group coat pegs). If you are unable to come on Thursday there will be another opportunity on Thursday 24th April so hopefully everyone who would like to take part can join in.

Busy Families

Lots more Mums and Dads joined their children for Eileen’s Christmas Family Learning activity on Monday this week. Here are some of them busy at work. We are sure that your Christmas trees will look lovely now with your new decorations. Thanks go, as always, to Eileen for arranging these opportunities for our families. Keep an eye on the Family Learning noticeboard next term for more activities.

Christmas Crafts

It was great to see that more children and their families were joining in the Christmas craft activities today. Sophie’s family made theirs on Friday and seemed to enjoy themselves as Mum has left us a comment:

“We had a lovely morning and Sophie and Thom were keen to their
Angel decorations on the tree as soon as we got home!
They look lovely.”

We’re glad that you were pleased with your creations and will try to put a few more photos up later in the week.

Family Crafts

Thanks must go again to Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for providing super craft activities for children and their families to enjoy together. Our first sessions on Friday saw Mums, Dads, little brothers and sisters have fun making lovely Christmas crafts together. We hope that their homes are now looking a little more festive with the latest additions. Hopefully, the families who are taking part on Monday are looking forward to enjoying Eileen’s crafts too.

Family Fun Activity

We would like to remind you that Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, has arranged activity sessions to make Christmas decorations with your Nursery child and younger siblings. In the past lots of parents and children have enjoyed doing this together and we are grateful to Eileen for providing the opportunity again this year.
You can join in the fun with glitter and glue on Friday 13th December and Monday 16th December. There are still some spaces left – just add your name to the list on the Family Learning board in the corridor.

Rhyme Time

The children and parents who came to the Family Learning activity last week seemed to enjoy making rhyme bags and rhyme mats with Eileen Johnstone, our Family Learning Co-ordinator. You can see some of them looking very happy with their work below.
As several of you indicated that you could not make that day for various reasons, Eileen has arranged another opportunity for you on Friday 22nd November (9 – 10 or 2 – 3). If you would like to attend, please add your name to the list on the Family Learning notice board in the Nursery corridor.
We would also like to remind you that if you want a story, rhyme or number bag they can be collected from the Family Room (opposite the school hall) on a Thursday at 11.30 or 12.30.

Harvest Thank You

Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, linked our recent family activity to our Harvest celebration and Carmen, Tom and Sophie’s Mums have all commented on our photos.

“Carmen and I really enjoyed this session. She got to learn all about food and were it comes from. I got to cut out the pictures and Carmen stuck them down. Thank you Eileen xx”

“It was lovely to see my mummy here.”

“It was lovely coming to family day, so nice to see Sophie in her school environment!”

We have all enjoyed hearing about the wide range of things that the children have chosen to say ‘thank you’ for on their Harvest baskets. You may recognise some of these from our Harvest celebration but we thought that they were lovely to share.

Family Learning

We are delighted that many of our families took part in our first Family Learning activity of the year. Here you can see lots of children with their parents busy making harvest baskets and talking about where different foods come from. Thank you so much to Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for organising this activity and to all our parents who took the time to join in.
