We would like to remind you that, following on from the posters and leaflets that we developed with parents last year, we will hold a taster session of “Rhyme and Storytime” tomorrow, Tuesday 18th September at 9.00 and 12.15. This will be led by Eileen Johnstone, our Family Learning Co-ordinator and we look forward to seeing you there.
Our posters are displayed in the Nursery so we hope that you can take the time to have a look at them as these key five messages are central to developing your child’s literacy.

Clever Gardener
After planting beans with Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, last term the children involved took home their beans to look after them. They talked about what they would have to do to help them grow and one clever little gardener brought in the results of his hard work to show us this week. Very well done! We think that you have done a fantastic job looking after your beans. Thank you for bringing it in to show us.
Family Learning
Last week’s Family Learning activities were the first of the year and Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, enjoyed meeting new parents with their children as well as some that she got to know last year.
With her “Rhyme Time” activities, Eileen was matching the Nursery’s planning as she sent everyone a little home activity whether or not they attended her sessions. Here is a snapshot of some of our families joining in with the Family Learning sessions. We hope that everyone who took part enjoyed the sessions and look forward to more activities soon. Thank you very much to Eileen for organising a fun activity for all.
Family Learning
We would like to remind you that our first Family Learning sessions of the year will be held tomorrow, Thursday 6th September. It is great to see that a large group of families have signed up to this and Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, is looking forward to seeing you all. Times are 9.00-9.45, 11.15-12.00, 12.15-1.00 and 2.15-3.00. Remember that younger siblings are welcome. We hope that you have lots of fun.
Family Learning
Our PEEP sessions with Eileen, the Family Learning Co-ordinator, started again last week and, when I popped in, this little group was enjoying a story and various activities linked to seeds which supported the learning they had been doing in Nursery. They will now have cress as well as a sunflower to look after so they are going to be busy little gardeners.
The first morning session is planned for Tuesday of this week and Eileen will have an afternoon session again on Thursday. We hope that those taking part have lots of fun.
Learning Together
Learning Together (PEEP) sessions are held in the Family Learning room (opposite the school hall) each week with each session lasting approximately one hour. If you would like to have a cuppa, meet other parents/carers and get involved with fun activities with your child, please complete the reply slip by Friday 27th April indicating your preferred sessions. Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator will be in touch once she has gauged interest and preferred time slots.
Story, Rhyme And Number Bags
Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, continues to run the “Story, Rhyme and Number Bags” on a Thursday. However, she is now working from the Family Learning room (outside the school hall) due to our current building works.
If you would like a bag to take home, please go to Eileen’s room as previously on a Thursday. If you still have a bag from last term please return it on Thursday of this week. We hope that lots of our families make use of this opportunity and thank Eileen for her support with this valuable activity.
Humpty Dumpty
Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, continued with her PEEP activities in the last week of term and Humpty Dumpty played an important role in this session, with the children building a wall for Humpty, going under lycra to find him and then making puppets with their families. This looks like great fun. Look out for more PEEP (Parents Early Education Programme) sessions next term – remember that younger siblings are welcome too.
Buddy Training
As you know, our Primary 6 pupils have been spending time building relationships with the Nursery children over the past few months. To help them develop their skills, Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, has done some buddy training with them recently to ensure that they are confident in supporting the younger children. It was reassuring to see these older children taking their duties so seriously as they discussed varying possible scenarios and how they should behave in different situations. We think that we have a super group of children in Primary 6 who are showing maturity and responsibility in their roles in Nursery. Thank you Eileen for your help and thank you Primary 6 for all your thoughtful ideas.
“Bag Library”
We would like to remind you that Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, will be starting her “bag library” tomorrow, Thursday 8th March, outside Nursery. These story, rhyme and number bags are designed to encourage your child to enjoy reading and numbers and families can borrow a bag each week.
If your child attends Nursery in the morning you can collect a bag when you collect your child at the end of the morning session. The bag should be returned the following Thursday at the start of the morning session when you should leave it on your child’s peg. You can collect your new bag at the end of the session.
If your child attends Nursery in the afternoon you can return and collect a bag on a Thursday when you bring your child at the start of the Nursery session.
We hope that lots of families take advantage of this opportunity and thank Eileen for arranging it.
