Kandinsky Gallery

We have been learning about the work of the artist Kandinsky in Nursery and have compared his work to that of Arcimboldo which was so enjoyed by the children last term. A range of media has been used to create artwork in the style of Kandinsky and the children have been amazed and delighted to be able to produce a piece of art that looks similar to that of a famous artist. As you can see, some of their super work has been done outdoors as well as indoors for display. We hope that enjoy our little Kandinsky gallery. I wonder if the children can find their own work?

The Garden Band

Whatever the weather, the children love outdoor play and enjoy the opportunity to experiment and learn in so many different ways. On the particular day last week when we captured these photos, they had great fun singing and playing in a band in the garden. As well as using the musical instruments, they managed to make music by being creative with all sorts of materials that they found outdoors.

Design Your Own Feet

As our learning this week and next is focussed around Bonfire Night and Diwali, Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, organised an activity linked to these celebrations.
As Hindus welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, into their homes at Diwali, her tiny footprints are found around the house to show her arrival. The children drew round their feet and produced some wonderfully creative and individual designs on their drawings to represent Lakshmi.
They also worked with their families to make chocolate sparklers which seemed to go down just as well as the sparklers at a bonfire.
Thank you to Eileen for providing a super activity that lots of families were able to enjoy and thanks also for offering extra time slots for those who were not able to make the arranged days. We are sure that everyone had a great time and we look forward to the next Family Learning activity.

Musical Moments

We hope that everyone is enjoying their holidays and thought that you might enjoy a little reminder of Nursery life. Last term, as a group time activity, the children learned to play a range of musical instruments and they have continued this experience into their play as they are becoming increasingly confident to play in a little band and perform to friends. Here you can see some of the Sunshine children making music.

Arcimboldo Art

Emma’s family has been looking at our Arcimboldo work where the children used foods to make portraits:

“Looks like Emma’s having fun!! Wonder how much food went missing during this activity hee hee.”

As you can imagine, we needed close supervision in the art area but the children did really respond well to this activity.

Artists At Work

As part of our learning about Autumn we have looked at some of the work of the artist Arcimboldo. We looked closely at his “Autumn” portrait to see how he used food to depict the seasons as faces then used food to make our own portraits. As you can see, some of the children have been inspired learning about this artist and have produced some super work.

Harvest Celebration

Thank you to Rev. McGougan and to all afternoon family and friends who attended our little Harvest celebration today. Those well deserved cheers and smiles meant a lot to the children who performed so well to a large audience. They certainly showed themselves to be those ‘confident individuals’ and ‘effective contributors’ that we want them to become. We are sure that you felt as proud of them as we did. Thank you also for your generous donations which will be much appreciated by local charities.

Harvest Celebration

Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to our Harvest collection which will be delivered to local charities. You can see the Rainbow Room children in front of all the wonderful donations just before their celebration today. Thank you also to Rev. McGougan for being part of our Harvest celebration and to all the family and friends who provided a super audience for the children’s performance.
We look forward to seeing our afternoon families tomorrow and would again like to thank you all for your generosity.

Harvest Celebration

Rev. McGougan is looking forward to joining us for our Harvest celebration this week. Please remember that our morning celebration is on Thursday 2nd October at 11.30 and Rev. McGougan will join the afternoon children and their families on Friday 3rd October at 2.40. This is an informal gathering in the Nursery and all family members are welcome. As you can see, the children have been learning two new songs and are looking forward to performing them to their families. We look forward to seeing lots of you there.

Family Wall Hanging

We thought we’d share some of the work that the children and their families produced at the Family Learning activity last week. As you can see, there were lots of different ideas from everyone to decorate their squares. The Family Room will look great with your new wall hanging. Thank you to all those who took part.
