Animals, Autumn And Art

The Rainbow Room visited the school nature area several times towards the end of term as part of their interest in animals as well as the changing season. As you can see, they all enjoyed listening to “Rumble in the Jungle” and then set off on a hunt to search for animals in the nature area which was very exciting.
After a tasty outdoor snack, the children talked about the signs around them that Autumn was on its way and gathered some evidence which they all shared in their discussion together about their findings.
Once back in Nursery, some of the children made super art work from their finds in our outdoor area which looks great displayed in the mud kitchen hanging from the shelter. Great teamwork and enthusiasm were evident from these children in this activity and we think that they must certainly have gone home tired that day.

Hairdressers

Tilly’s family has been looking at the photos of the Raindrop Room’s hairdressing salon:

“Tilly absolutely loved the hairdresser’s role play area! Playing hairdressers and make up artists is her favourite thing to do at home! She is very pleased with herself that she can now put her own pony tail in and loves to put as many bobbles as she can in my hair!!!!!”

Well done Tilly – you must have been practising lots to be able to do your own hair. It was certainly a popular area with Tilly and her friends.

Pets And Vets

The role play area in Nursery is always popular and the children have great ideas of what they would like there. Recently in the Rainbow Room some wanted a vet’s surgery and some wanted a pet shop so we decided to have both side by side. As you can see from this little gallery, this was a very busy area with lots of super interaction going on between the children.

Colour Mixing

Experimenting with paint to make different colours is great fun especially when done on a bigger scale outdoors. Here the children created their own colour mixes sending different colours of paint down the pipes into big bowls then observing the effects. A few little ducks joined in the fun and were sent down the slides to splash into the newly created pools of colour. What a busy morning this was.

Friendship Club

The Old Parish Church hall was the venue on Monday of a visit by a group of our children to entertain the ladies and gentlemen of the Friendship Club. The children showed great maturity and confidence in an unfamiliar situation, individually introducing themselves on stage and performing a few favourite songs to a delighted audience. It was lovely to see our children chatting to everyone after their performance and to see two generations together. Thank you to everyone at the Friendship Club for your warm welcome, your kind applause and, of course, for the delicious snack of ice-cream and strawberries which was a lovely treat. This was a great opportunity for the children to perform to an audience and we appreciate your kind invitation. We hope to see you again in the future.

Looking After Babies

When the children in the Raindrop Room asked for babies in the role play area they gave us lots of ideas of what else we needed to provide to look after their babies. Once we introduced their suggestions, this was a very popular area to play in and the children showed good understanding of how to look after babies in their conversations and imaginative play.
Marnie: babies like stories. At bedtime they get baths with their big sisters to keep them safe. Lift big things away from baby sisters that might fall on top of them.
Ella: first the babies cry and then we give them the dummy. Babies cry when they don’t like the toys they have. We change babies’ nappies, some people call them diapers. After you’ve fed the baby you put the spit cloth on your shoulder. Put the baby on your shoulder and pat them.
Luca: sing babies “One, Two, Three, Four, Five Once I Caught a Fish Alive”.
Tilly: mummies look after babies so they don’t cry.
Joely: babies need milk from the kitchen. They drink it in a bottle. Cuddle babies.
Mason: rock babies to sleep.
Noah: babies cry. Cuddle them. They like baby toys. Babies have teddies. Wash babies with a sponge.
Skye D.: we need to be careful when we hold a baby. When we wash a baby we need to be gentle.
Robin: we sing lullabies to babies. We cuddle them. They are cute and small.
Kara: babies sleep in a cot. We feed them fruit. Be careful holding a baby. They like a dummy if they’re crying.
Fern: mummies look after babies. Babies like carrots. They get fed with milk at bedtime. Babies wear baby clothes. You can rock babies to make them sleep in your arms. At bedtime they get bedtime stories. Fire things keep babies safe from the fire.
Sophie E.: I look after baby Harry and play with him and love him. I feed him his bottle when it’s time for bed. We like looking at each other.
Anthony: be careful – don’t break babies. Babies like trains. They drink baby milk. They cry if they want baby milk. Babies wear nappies. Mummies feed babies. They sleep in a baby bed.
Summer: babies like milk in a bottle. A baby sleeps in a cot.

Tracks Big And Small

The Rainbow room took art outdoors recently as they used various vehicles to experiment in making patterns. Trucks, bikes, diggers and scooters all made different tracks on the card and the children loved trying out the various wheels. Some preferred the little vehicles on the table while others liked to “drive” along or walk on the card to make their pattern. The children were certainly proud of their finished work and showed themselves to be responsible and independent by cleaning up all the materials at the end of their artwork. What a great day’s work!
