Visit To “The Big School”

Instead of our usual walk with the Primary 6 buddies on Monday, we had a lovely invitation to visit them in their classroom this week. After a long climb up the big stairs, which everyone found very exciting, we finally arrived on the top floor of the school and found Primary 6 all ready for us in a big circle. We joined them in the circle and had great fun learning several songs with our buddy friends.
Here are the morning children having a great time with Primary 6. We have photos from our afternoon visit too which we will post soon. Thank you so much to Primary 6 and Mr. Stevenson for taking the time to plan such a fun activity for us and for making our little children feel so welcome. They were all very excited about their visit to “the big school”.

Buddy Training

As you know, our Primary 6 pupils have been spending time building relationships with the Nursery children over the past few months. To help them develop their skills, Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, has done some buddy training with them recently to ensure that they are confident in supporting the younger children. It was reassuring to see these older children taking their duties so seriously as they discussed varying possible scenarios and how they should behave in different situations. We think that we have a super group of children in Primary 6 who are showing maturity and responsibility in their roles in Nursery. Thank you Eileen for your help and thank you Primary 6 for all your thoughtful ideas.

Dancing Dragon

The morning children made their own decisions when planning their Chinese dragon as part of our learning about Chinese New Year and, as you can see, their dragon is quite different from the one made by the afternoon children although glitter was still very popular as part of the decoration.
All we need to do now is practise dancing with our dragon so that we look just like the real Chinese dragons that we have watched on the computer.

Chinese Dragon

As our learning moves on to the celebrations of Chinese New Year, the children decided that they would like to make their own dragon after watching a clip on the internet of Chinese dragon dances. We provided them with a selection of materials and the children thought about how we could make a dragon and what they wanted it to look like.
Here are the afternoon children very busy last week with their discussions and dragon making.

Keep Nursery Tidy

Our recent “Keep Nursery Tidy” monitors have been doing a great job reminding everyone about the importance of tidying away after finishing with an activity and they have been happy to help with all the little jobs themselves too. Let’s hope that all the boys and girls help our monitors each week to look after our equipment and help to tidy it away.

Afternoon Performance

As promised, here are some photos of the afternoon children just before their Christmas celebration. Just like the morning children, they showed confidence in their performance and sang beautifully for their families despite having depleted numbers due to absences. Well done to everyone and thank you so much to all those who provided a wonderful audience for the children.

Proud Family

We have a lovely comment from Enid’s family about the children’s Christmas performance:

“We were so proud of Enid’s singing, full of joy & confidence. Such a pleasure to watch the children all enjoying themselves. Thank you”

We felt very proud of all the children too as most were not daunted by the large audience and showed themselves to be the ‘confident individuals’ and ‘effective contributors’ that we aim for. Thank you to all our families for making this a wonderful occasion for the children.

Christmas Decor

Christmas arrived recently in Nursery when the Christmas trees appeared and the children decorated them with the decorations that they had made themselves. Both the Sunshine and Rainbow rooms worked hard and we think that they made a great job of their trees. Please have a close at their work in Nursery to see if you agree.
