Making dens develops teamwork, communication and problem solving skills as well as being lots of fun, with the children able to test out their planning and learn from their mistakes when they use their den.
As we reach the end of the year, it is evident that our children have learned so much from developing these skills both indoors and outdoors. Here is an example of their work which was totally led and organised by the children with no adult intervention. They were so proud of their efforts and spent such a long time playing in their den, changing and developing it as different children joined in the play.

Creativity And Imagination
Creativity and imagination are central to the play of our children and we just loved the way this little group created their own picnic table from resources they found outdoors. They worked well as a team, talked about what they needed and then produced some wonderful, imaginative role play for such a long time, making drinks and a variety of different foods as part of their play.
Meet The Parents
Our Primary 6 buddies very kindly took the time to write letters to their Nursery child’s family so that they know a little about them and they have recently introduced themselves to their parents/carers. We hope that this has eased a few of the worries you may have had about your child moving to Primary 1 and that you enjoy sharing the letters with your children. We thought that we would share a few photos of everyone meeting each other.
Thank you Primary 6 children for doing a super job. You certainly are responsible citizens and effective contributors!
Fairy House Makeover
Last year we created a little fairy garden in a corner of our outdoor area and recently some of the children had noticed that it could do with a lick of paint and tidy up for the poor fairies. What better activity for a sunny afternoon than to paint our fairy houses so a small group set about the task with great enthusiasm and made a super job as you can see. Great teamwork boys and girls! We think that the fairies will be delighted with their home makeover.
First Award Winners
Here are the first award winners of our new term showing us their well earned certificates. Congratulations to you both! You thoroughly deserved your awards.
Planting
As we began to see some signs of Spring last week and the children noticed things growing outdoors, we decided to fill some of our planters ready for the sunshine. There was no shortage of helpers to fill the tubs with compost and put the plants in, as we talked about how we would look after our plants and help them to grow. Plenty water and sunshine seemed to be the popular answer. We certainly have no shortage of water and hope that we get the sunshine that the children want to help our little garden to grow.
Exploring Outdoors
Brooke’s family has been looking at the photos of her working well as part of a team outdoors:
“So nice to see Brooke doing what she loves doing best, exploring outdoors in mud and water 😀”
They did a great job and showed perseverance and super teamwork to empty the water butt.
Clever Problem Solvers
Here are some clever little problem solvers busy at work in our garden earlier in the week. We talked about emptying our water butt, as the rainwater had been sitting over the holidays, but we needed to work out how to get the water out without making a massive puddle in the mud kitchen area.
With a bit of a chat about possible solutions and a peek inside to see how much rainwater we were talking about (a lot!), the children decided to hold the hose under the tap to catch the water and then let the water drain away at the side of the fence out of the way of everyone’s play. What a team! They showed good thinking skills and great perseverance as they worked away as a team to get the job done. Now we have an empty water butt waiting for fresh rainwater. Well done all of you!
Lots Of Fun
Here is a group of Primary 6 children helping the afternoon children with their bunny designs at the end of term. If you would like to see all the bunnies together, have a look on the Nursery wall after the holiday. We think that they make a great display to reflect yet another super time together. Thank you Primary 6 for all your help.
Bunnies And Buddies
Our Primary 6 buddies continued their super work in the Nursery in the last week of term, enjoying an art activity with our children. Marshmallows, toothbrushes and glitter were the tools used to decorate their bunnies and the older pupils chatted to our children as they made their choices about colour and design. This gallery shows the morning children all busy at work. We will post some photos of the afternoon children working with Primary 6 soon.
