Congratulations

Heckie’s Happy Healthy Week brought lots of different competitions which many of you entered. It was great to see your wonderful ideas for a sports person made out of fruit and vegetables, the poster competition and the healthy packed lunch design. Thanks to all the family members who helped the children enjoy these activities at home. We also had certificates for being the best Junior Fire Officer and for giving the best effort at the Keep Fit activity.
Primary 6 were very impressed with the Nursery entries and several children won prizes and certificates. Well done to all who entered and congratulations to those who were winners. Thank you again to Primary 6 for being so organised with awarding your prizes and for making Nursery children feel special.

We’re Going on a Fruit Hunt

Last week was “Heckie’s Happy Healthy Week” and it was great for Nursery to take part in lots of activities organised by Mrs. Johnston and Primary 6. Here you can see the Fruit Hunt organised by two Primary 6 pupils who hid a variety of fruit tokens in the Nursery garden for the children to find. They then had to work together to put the fruit in the correct hoops according to colour. Everyone had great fun especially when the wind blew them out of the hoops and we had to catch them again. Thank you so much to Primary 6 for taking time to organise a fun activity for us. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and loved taking part in “Heckie’s Happy Healthy Week”.

Red Nose Day

Thank you to everyone who contributed to Red Nose Day today. The Nursery did very well to raise £60.45 towards the school collection. Next week we will have a whole school total which will be displayed in the cloakroom area. As you can see, the children seemed to enjoy wearing something different today.

Good Teamwork

What a busy morning we had in the garden today. A group of children from each room worked so well together to build their own den with planks of wood. Despite being really excited about their construction, they managed to keep very quiet, hiding in it and when Mrs. Carruthers came out to the garden, she jumped up in the air and gave a huge shout when they shouted “Surprise!” Well done everyone for working so well together and for managing to plan the big surprise. What a team!

Marie Curie Mini Pots of Care

Along with many schools and nurseries throughout the country, the children celebrated “Mini Pots of Care Day” last week by decorating pot wrappers for the daffodils they had nurtured over the winter and then taking their pots home to someone they care about. As well as being a fantastic opportunity to contrbute to society, this project provided great opportunities to learn about how plants grow.
As a result of the generous sponsorship of families and friends, we are delighted to be able to send a grand sum of £234.70 to Marie Curie Cancer Care. We would like to say a huge thank you to those of you who helped us raise this excellent total. We feel sure that our donation will be put to good use.

Bethany’s Dragon Travels to Ireland

Bethany’s family seemed to like her Chinese dragon and commented on her photo:

“Bethany made another Dragon for her Grandparents in Ireland. Her Aunty Sarah was so impressed she used it to inspire her Primary School students in her Afterschool Art Club. So those Dragons certainly have travelled far and near.
A big thankyou to all involved, you’re doing a great job!”

It’s great to hear that Bethany is acting as a Hecklegirth Dragon Ambassador. I wonder if Aunty Sarah’s children’s dragons were as good as yours? Keep up the good work Bethany!

Bring and Buy Sale

Recently Nursery morning children were invited to a “Bring and Buy Sale” by P5/4. As you can see, it was a busy and exciting event where there was lots for the children to spend their money on. Some chose toys and books, others preferred the cake stall but most found something they wanted to buy.
It was tricky managing to work out which coins we needed but P5/4 were very patient and helpful with all our children. Thank you to everyone in P5/4 for inviting us to your very well organised event, for your lovely manners and for your kindness and patience with the Nursery children. We would also like to congratulate you on raising over £230 for Guide Dogs for the Blind – you should be very proud of yourselves.

How Many Ways Can We Use Snow?

What fun we had when the snow arrived yesterday. The children seemed to find so many different ways to enjoy it and many spent nearly the whole session out in the Nursery garden.
They tried to build snow mummies, snow babies and snow dogs but they discovered that the snow was a bit too soft. Some lay down to make snow angels and others were very inventive and used the tyres to make a snow bin where they stored “special snow for special things”. A bucket with a little water in the bottom provided a useful experiment as they tried to work out what was happening when they put snow in and it changed appearance. One group spent ages in a taxi, talking about getting the heating on and hoping that they would get to Carlisle safely as the weather was bad for driving. There were so many wonderful ideas happening everywhere.
It was hard to capture good photos because the children didn’t stay still for long in their excitement but hopefully these will capture some of the moments of our lovely snowy day.
