Not content with just a Christmas tree indoors, the children in the Raindrop Room found a metal frame in the garden and created their own outdoor tree too. We think that they made a great job of it.

Christmas Preparations
As well as those in the Rainbow Room, the children in the Raindrop Room have been busy decorating their room for Christmas. They decided that they wanted to wrap their own parcels to put at the bottom of the tree and showed good fine motor control to do this successfully. The decorated tree now stands in the role play area as part of a cosy Christmas scene.
Christmas Decorations
Christmas arrived on Friday afternoon in the Rainbow Room when the Christmas tree appeared and the children worked together to decorate it. Well done boys and girls – we think that you did a super job.
Children In Need
“Wear What You Want Day” on Friday raised a generous sum of £260 for Children In Need while providing the children with the opportunity to come to Nursery in a wide range of outfits. Don’t they all just look great?

Thank You
The Outdoor Canvas
The outdoors provides the opportunity for a bigger canvas than indoors for those who want to experiment with paint. Some like to create artwork on paper while others enjoy decorating the environment. This was certainly a busy little team showing their creativity in the garden recently.
Remembrance Day
Despite chilly weather, all our children walked to the war memorial today for Remembrance Day. They behaved beautifully and we were very proud of them standing quietly for the little service and the silence. Each room had made two wreaths which were laid at the foot of the war memorial so you may see them if you are on the High Street. Thank you to all our children for making us feel so proud of you.

Problem Solvers
One of the most popular experiments that the Rainbow Room children have enjoyed has been making slime and, in the true spirit of experiments, their efforts did not always work. They listened well to follow instructions then made their observations once they started playing with the slime and realised that they needed to make changes. Sometimes it was too runny, other times too crumbly so they tried a few different methods before they were happy with the end result. This was a great learning experience and the children proved themselves to be good little problem solvers as they tried to make their experiment work.
Learning As We Bake
Learning to follow instructions, such as counting and measuring ingredients, is essential when following a recipe, and therefore baking helps to develop the children’s “Numeracy and Mathematics” and listening skills while prediction, observation and discussion about the potential changes to their ingredients, as they are mixed and baked, develop their learning in “Sciences”. These happy little bakers also learned to use the mixer and set the oven to develop their understanding in “Technologies” so this baking session provided so much learning in one activity. Best of all, of course, is the all important tasting session once the cakes are baked.
