Exploring In Mud

Brooke’s family has been looking at the photos of the children’s ‘sticky mud game’:

“Brooke loves exploring in mud and getting messy so I can imagine how much fun this would of been for her, looks like a great game they have all created together. Well done everyone.”

It was a super game which kept them engaged for such a long time. Great teamwork!

The Sticky Mud Game

We love it when the children play co-operatively to plan and carry out their own ideas. These photos show a group of children playing a game of their own creation which they called “The Sticky Mud Game”. They used the resources that they found outdoors and made their own rules, telling me, You have to get the mud and move it into the puddle. It’s a bit hard but it’s easy if you keep doing it”.
As the children moved mud into the puddle, they then realised that the puddle was filling up so they said, We need to make the puddle bigger so there’s room for the mud”. Cups and bowls were then used to transport water from another part of the garden to make the puddle bigger.
What super teamwork and creativity they have shown to invent their own game, agree on the rules together and work out how to solve problems they came up against. We love the Sticky Mud Game.

Talking About Autumn

Learning about Autumn this term has been helped greatly by the children’s super contributions to our display. Chestnuts, acorns, various berries and leaves of so many colours have been collected by the children and their families. Good talking skills have been evident as the children shared their finds with others and talked about where they had found them. Thank you so much to all those families who have taken the time to talk to their children about the signs of Autumn and have helped them find examples. The children have shown great enthusiasm to look at and talk about our display.

Thank You

Thank you to all the family and friends who were able to watch the children’s performance today of the Autumn songs that they had been learning. We really appreciate your support in providing a wonderful audience for the children and we hope that you enjoyed their performance as much as they seemed to.
One of our aims is to develop ‘confident individuals’ and many of our children showed themselves to be exactly that in performing in front of a large audience. Well done boys and girls! We think that your families were as proud of you as we were. Here are the children excited and ready to perform earlier today.

Happy Families

Two of our families have left lovely comments about the children’s performance today. Jasmin’s family said,
“They were all fantastic, well done!”

Brooke’s family enjoyed the performance too:
“Thank you very much for inviting us to watch the children sing, was lovely to come and listen to and watch Brooke do what she loves the best and sing her wee heart and perform. All the children done really well today, they were so confident in standing up in front of a big crowd to sing.”

Thank you for leaving such kind comments. We really appreciate it. We will shortly post a couple of photos of the children ready to perform.

Go Purple Day

We would like to remind you that tomorrow, Thursday 5th October, is “Go Purple Day” at Hecklegirth. Staff and pupils will wear purple and make donations of £1 per family in aid of the Schiehallion Appeal, the Glasgow Children’s Hospital charity, to help support a pupil in our school who is currently receiving treatment in Glasgow. Any additional donations would be gratefully received.
Let’s hope that we can turn the school and Nursery purple tomorrow.

Shimmering Shells

After hearing about the children decorating pebbles for our outdoor area, Leah’s Granny kindly gave us a box of shells to add to our display. As you can see, the children were enthusiastic to sponge various patterns on to their shells which they finished off with a dash of glitter. Thank you to Leah’s Granny for providing us with a fun activity which the children thoroughly enjoyed. Look out for our new shells in the garden any day soon.
