Outdoor Snack

Snack outdoors is always popular, particularly if there is a fire involved. The children love to help prepare their own food and there seems to be nothing tastier than a snack that you help to prepare yourself. As well as learning to stay safe near a fire, the children in the Raindrop Room are developing their fine motor skills and independence as they spread the butter on their bagels. As you can see, the children are always keen to join in round the fire and they made a good job of toasting their snack.

Fun And Games

As well as experimenting with a range of resources in the outdoor area to develop problem solving skills, motor skills and creativity, the children have also been enjoying some games. The children in their second year have been great at leading the play and here you can see some of the Rainbow Room children having fun playing “Duck Duck Goose”.

Welcome To The Theatre

The children in the Raindrop Room have recently discovered the puppets and the puppet theatre. It just took one little confident performer to take to the stage and quickly seats were gathered for an audience and the children were taking turns to perform in their little theatre. It’s great to see that the children’s confidence is growing to sing or say a rhyme in front of an audience. We love these impromptu performances.

Hall Time

The pre-school children have had their first visits to the hall to enjoy fun activities with Mrs. Foster, our P.E. teacher. They learned that listening skills are very important and had lots of practice at stopping and starting various movements as well as learning how to develop their throwing and catching skills. There is lots to learn and it’s so much fun.

Exploring Outdoors

Most of the children have taken the opportunity to explore the outdoor area in the first two weeks of term so they are learning to change their shoes and put on outdoor suits when they are needed. Some are developing their confidence on the big climbing frame, others have been drawing or exploring our big tubes and tepee. The outdoor area is certainly a very popular place to play.

Raindrop Room Day One

We are having a problem uploading some of our photos at the moment but, as promised, here are some photos of the Raindrop Room children at play on the first day of our new year. Just like those in the Rainbow Room, we were delighted with the confidence the children showed on their first day. We hope to post more examples of the children at play soon.
We would be delighted if you left us a comment (by clicking on the word “comments” under the post title) to let us know how you feel about the start of the Nursery year.

The Play Begins

It was lovely to see some familiar faces today and to begin to get to know our new children and their families.
We are able to share some photos here of the children in the Rainbow Room at play on their first day. Once we have blog permission slips returned from everyone, we will able to share more photos and examples of the children’s work here. We hope that you will find this a valuable insight into the life of our Nursery and that you can use the blog to add comments about your child’s experience.
Simply click on the word “comment” under the title of each post if you wish to leave a comment. Please be aware that these will not appear immediately, as they are monitored by the administrator before publication, but you should see your comment within a day or two.
Thank you to all our parents for helping us to provide a smooth and happy start for the children. Photos of children in the Raindrop Room will be posted soon.

Den Building

Outdoor play provides great opportunities for the children to develop their creativity and skills with lots of problem solving and teamwork at the heart of much of their learning. This snapshot from one morning shows the children working well together to create their own den, triggering lots of imaginative play which extended to the mud kitchen as meals had to be provided for the family living in the new den. No wonder the children go home tired with all this hard work that they do in a day.

Snack Creations

Lots of learning happens in the snack area in Nursery and here you can see the children developing their fine motor skills as they prepare fruit, showing good control to chop safely. They then decided how to set out their snack in a way that looked appealing, be that as a face or a pattern that they created. Finally, as well as enjoying the tasty food that they had prepared, the children took photos of their snack themselves so that they could share their work with others after it was eaten up. Great work all round boys and girls.
