Wednesday is buddy day when Primary 6 visit Nursery children to play with them. The buddies are getting to know our children and are doing a great job. It’s lovely to see the older and younger children chatting together as they begin to build relationships. We are looking forward to lots more visits in the future and hope that Primary 6 are enjoying their visits too.

Tasting Time
There is so much learning happens in the snack area and recently the Rainbow Room used this area to focus on tasting different foods and recording their likes and dislikes on a graph, developing the children’s skills in Numeracy and Mathematics as well as Health and Wellbeing. The children tasted a range of fruit and then vegetables to find out the most popular as they recorded their preferred choices then learned how to understand their recordings.
Book Fair Visit
Some of the children paid a little visit to the Book Fair in school this week and enjoyed having a look at all the super books on display. It was great to see the children enthusiastic about stories and some told their families about the books they were interested in. Well done boys and girls for your super behaviour and manners in the wider school environment.
Theatre Performance
You don’t need to use puppets to have fun with a puppet theatre as this group showed recently. It just took one little confident performer to take to the stage and quickly seats were gathered for an audience and the children were taking turns to perform in their little theatre. It’s great to see that the children’s confidence is growing to sing or say a rhyme in front of an audience. We love these impromptu performances.
Rainbow Pet Shop
It’s been all go in the Rainbow Room’s pet shop in the past week or two. The children decided what kind of shop they would like and, as this was the most popular choice, they discussed what we needed to make a good pet shop. They certainly came up with lots of great suggestions and everyone has loved visiting it.
Chinese Dining
Our role play areas change according to our children’s interests and the recent enthusiasm for learning about Chinese New Year led to the Raindrop Room having a Chinese restaurant. There were some great meals served up and lots of diners calling in to enjoy them.
Yoga Moves
This term some of the children having been joining in with yoga sessions with Mrs. Foster, our P.E. teacher. As you can see, this involves good balancing skills, flexibility and concentration. This little group certainly look as if they are working very hard at their yoga and Mrs. Foster was very impressed with their work.
Engineers Of The Future?
I wonder if we have some engineers of the future here in Hecklegirth Nursery? The children in the Raindrop Room have been very busy investigating an old TV to find out what is inside it and to build confidence using tools. We thought that we would share a few of their comments and photos of them busy at work.
Louie: I’m fixing this bit.
Matthew: I screwed it in.
Ellie: I’m fixing the screen.
Finlay: I’m trying to get these parts out.
Kai: I see another screw.
Leah: we’re screwing some nuts on.
Archie: it’s electricity.
A Chat And A Treat
You can’t beat a fire for a chat and a tasty treat on a chilly day and the Raindrop Room certainly seemed to enjoy their recent outdoor cooking experience. Marshmallows and toast were on offer and most children enjoyed cooking their own, showing good listening skills to stay safe.
Shape Hunt
With a recent focus on shape in the Rainbow Room, some of the children took a walk round part of the school to see if they could find any shapes in their environment. It was amazing how many shapes this little group found and they even took most of the shape photos themselves. Great work!
