Special Visitors

Hecklegirth had some exciting visitors last week when the Riding of the Marches principals arrived to see everyone. Here are some of the children waiting with the rest of the school to see the principals and their horses. Three of our pupils also had a lovely surprise when they were presented with medals for the Riding of the Marches Nursery ‘Design a Flag’ competition. Well done all of you.
We hope that the weather stays fine for Riding of the Marches and that you all have a lovely family day out if participating on Saturday.

Farmer’s Den

We would like to say a huge thank you to the Hecklegirth Fundraisers for paying for all the children to have a session at Farmer’s Den to celebrate our year in Nursery. Not only did the children run, jump and climb with boundless energy but they took some time out to draw or play with the bricks when they needed a little rest. Even Stan the Star made an appearance to join in the fun of what was a busy and very happy day.
Thank you to all those who have contributed to the fundraising activities this year as you helped the Nursery children have a super session at Farmer’s Den. These photos show the morning children having fun. Photos of the afternoon session will be posted soon.

Farmer’s Den

We would like to remind you that we will be at Farmer’s Den tomorrow, Monday 18th June, for our Nursery sessions.
Please meet us at Farmer’s Den at the usual times between 8.45 and 9.10. We ask that morning parents/carers collect the children at 11.45. Afternoon children should arrive at 12.15 and can be collected between 3.00 and 3.15. Snack will be provided thanks to the generosity of Hecklegirth Friends who have also paid for each child’s session. We look forward to seeing you there.

Dancing With An Elephant

Our local dance school, run by Maureen Smith, kindly provided a great dance experience for some of the Nursery children during our recent Health Week. Not only did we have several very patient dancers to support the children in learning some dance moves but Nellie the Elephant even paid a visit and joined in with our dancing. This was a super experience for the children who came away excited and happy so we would like to thank Maureen and all the dancers for giving up their time to work with us. We all appreciate your support very much.

Photos

Patrick’s family has been looking through our photos and liked the ones of the children visiting the police station.

“Aww Patrick you were a bit shy but weren’t you brave getting in the big car! Well done xxx” and “Lovely 😍 seeing you with all your friends Patrick xxx

The children did enjoy that visit and it was great that they were all able to try out the siren and blue light on the van.

Afternoon Visit

As promised, here are photos of the children enjoying an afternoon visit to the police station. Just as with the morning children, they behaved beautifully and made us very proud. Thank you so much to the parents and grandparents who came along with us, we hope that you enjoyed a visit out in the community with the children.

Police Station Visit

This week’s visit to the police station was a great learning experience. We were shown round the cells, as well as the rooms in the police station used for interviews and fingerprinting, and we found out what happens when someone is brought in to the police station. Some of the children tried out the hard beds and, although they thought it was great fun to try them out, most agreed that they would not like to sleep there.
The police van, of course, was very popular and most had a turn at sitting in the front and the back of the van. The blue light and siren caused great excitement although some had to cover their ears, the noise was so loud.
Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came with us on this visit – we appreciate your support. Thank you also to P.C. Leggett for answering some tricky questions and making us feel so welcome. These photos provide a taste of the morning children’s visit. We will post photos of the afternoon visit soon.

Our Community

Learning about our community and the jobs that people do has provided inspiration for some of the children’s drawings and paintings over the past week as they talked about the buildings and vehicles as well as people. Watch out also in Nursery for the street that the children have created in the craft area. Here is a small selection of the drawings and paintings that they have produced. Click then click again on the photos to see the names of the artists.
