Thank You
Thank you so much to those who have kindly donated to our local charity, Kate’s Kitchen. Bars of soap, hot water bottles, gloves, hats and socks would all be gratefully received to distribute in our local community. Final date to donate to this worthy cause is 14th December. Thank you very much for your kind generosity if you have already given donations.
War Memorial
Just like many other groups of children and adults over the past week, we talked about why we have Poppy Day and the children have begun to understand what it is about. As part of our learning some of the children took a walk to the war memorial at the end of last week to see for themselves what their local community has to remember those who died.
Holiday Swimming
We hope that some of you will take advantage of the free holiday swimming sessions for Hecklegirth pupils. The sessions available are:
• family sessions 11.00-1.00 Monday to Friday and 12.30-1.30 on Saturdays and Sundays
• Float Fun sessions 1.30-2.30 Tuesdays and Thursdays
• public sessions 6.00-8.00 on Thursdays and 1.30-4.00 on Saturdays and Sundays
Remember to notify swimming pool staff that you are from Hecklegirth to claim your child’s free swim. Accompanying adults will gain entry for a child’s price. Have fun in the pool everyone.
Signs Of Autumn
Learning about Autumn this term has been helped greatly by the children’s super contributions to our display. Chestnuts, acorns and leaves of so many colours have been collected by the children and their families. Good talking skills have been evident as the children shared their finds with others and talked about where they had found them. Thank you so much to all those families who have taken the time to talk to their children about the signs of Autumn and have helped them find examples. Here is a selection of the things the children have brought in.
Harvest Thank You
Thank you so much to those who have kindly donated to the whole school Harvest collection. Here are some of the children who added their contributions to the school display. Their gifts have now been distributed in the local community where they will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your kind generosity.
Maths Is Everywhere
One of Dumfries and Galloway’s RAiSE (Raising Aspirations in STEM Education) team has been looking at our post about Maths Week Scotland.
“Maths really is everywhere! Love your idea of creating a display of all the shapes and numbers you can find. Please don’t keep it to yourselves – share it on the Full STEM Ahead Yammer group and let other teachers see the great work you’re doing.
Keep up the great maths learning,
Regards
Mrs C Moyes
D&G RAiSE Teacher”
We are hoping that the children are still looking for numbers and shapes in our community as we would love examples for our display.
Maths Week Scotland
Thank you to those families who have taken part in Maths Week Scotland by bringing in examples of numbers and shapes in their environment. It is lovely to see the children sharing their learning with us. We hope that lots of you are looking for numbers and shapes out in our community and will be bringing us pictures, cuttings, photos etc. to add to our display.
Day Of The Region
Thank You
We would like to say huge thanks to Vicky and Jason Keir, former parents in our Nursery, who kindly donated their double buggy to the Sunshine Room so that they can go out on visits to our community. We are so delighted to now have this opportunity and wasted no time in getting the buggy into action the very next day.
What a great adventure these children had on their initial trip out. First port of call was Tesco to buy a little thank you gift for Vicky and Jason which the children then delivered to them. Along the way they spotted lots of letters and numbers and checked the trees for signs of Autumn which does not appear to be evident just yet in our area. Final stop was at the park where the children enjoyed their snack and some time on the equipment.
Thank you so much to Vicky and Jason for providing the children with this great learning opportunity. We really appreciate your kind generosity.
