Harvest Happiness

Thank you to Ava, Carmen and Tom’s Mums for their comments on our Harvest celebration.

“Thank you to all the girls and boys for a lovely morning celebrating Harvest, I really enjoyed it. Ava has loved learning the 2 songs and has been singing them a lot at home too. I can see her confidence has grown since starting nursery, which is great, I’m really pleased!”

“Carmen chose pasta to bring into the school for Harvest Day. She said to me ” Do I have to cook the pasta for the people who don’t have a lot of food.” I’m a bit wee for that I won’t reach the cooker.” That made me smile!!”

“It was lovely to come into nursery and hear the children sing and see them all looking so happy and involved.”

The children and staff enjoyed our special celebration too and we all really appreciated how many of our families took the time to join us.

Happy Holidays From Ollie

It was lovely to hear from one of our families from last year and great to get some news about Ollie:

“Hi. Just a wee update to let all the teachers know that ollie is really enjoying st Columbas and still talks about his friends and teachers at nursery. He attends tennis, swimming and football so catches up a lot with some of the boys and girls who were in his class. We hope that you have managed to get back over to the allotment and even picked some potatoes that you planted.
Exciting times ahead in our house as ollie is preparing to become a big brother in February. Happy October holidays. Love the hamilton’s. x”

We did visit the allotment on the last day of the school year and have recently been talking about going a walk there to see what’s happening now that it’s Autumn. Congratulations to Ollie on becoming a big brother – we are sure that he will do a super job in that role. It’s great that he still sees his Nursery friends and that he’s enjoying school. Thanks for keeping in touch. It would be lovely to hear how other former pupils are getting to on. I wonder if any of you ever look on our blog?

Harvest Thank You

Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, linked our recent family activity to our Harvest celebration and Carmen, Tom and Sophie’s Mums have all commented on our photos.

“Carmen and I really enjoyed this session. She got to learn all about food and were it comes from. I got to cut out the pictures and Carmen stuck them down. Thank you Eileen xx”

“It was lovely to see my mummy here.”

“It was lovely coming to family day, so nice to see Sophie in her school environment!”

We have all enjoyed hearing about the wide range of things that the children have chosen to say ‘thank you’ for on their Harvest baskets. You may recognise some of these from our Harvest celebration but we thought that they were lovely to share.

Darcy U.: thank you for my friends and sweeties and elephants

Carmen Loves Outdoor Play

Carmen enjoyed seeing her photo in the den in the Nursery garden. Her Mum left a comment:

“I showed Carmen the picture of her and her friends. She said they were hiding. She laughed and sayed look at Reagyn he’s trying to cuddle me. She loves playing outside she says she has lots of fun”

It’s been great to watch the children grow in confidence to build their dens and develop their imaginative play outdoors.

Well Done Charlie

Charlie’s Mum has left a lovely comment:

“So so so proud of Charlie at nursery. Tonight he listed all of his friends and it’s fantastic to hear he’s getting on so well. We do numbers at night time now and he’s very enthusiastic about getting it right. He loves to talk about his day and I love hearing about it. Thank you so much for bringing out his creative side xxx”

It’s great to hear that Charlie’s settling in so well. We hope that he continues to have lots of fun in Nursery.

Arcimboldo Takes Shape In Cream and Yoghurt

Both Ava and Bethany have impressed their families with their Arcimboldo work:

“wow what a fantastic picture Ava, very creative!”

We agree – this was a brilliant effort from Ava.

“Well done to all involved in the excellent Arcimboldo Project. It certainly held Bethany’s attention. Cara, her dog, also found her painting of special interest. She sniffed around the sweets until she was moved on! Keep up the good work.”

We’re glad that Cara appreciated Bethany’s work. Maybe you should display your picture up high on the wall Bethany just in case Cara fancies another look at it?

As promised, we thought we’d share the portraits that the children decided to make with different foods that they suggested – cream, yoghurt, bread and various fruit and vegetables. Obviously these choices of food could not really be glued very easily so the children each took their own photo of their work. We hope that you agree that they’ve done a very good job with their art work and photography.

We Love Arcimboldo

It’s great to hear that you have been enjoying our artwork. We have had three comments on our Arcimboldo photos:

“We have enjoyed hearing all about Arcimboldo. Freya has really enjoyed topic and portraits.”

“I was very impressed that Sophie remembered the artists name, i thought i had heard her wrong when she told me why she had been given a sticker! Anyway we looked on the internet together and i discovered who it was and recognised his work so it’s nice us Mummy’s get to learn new things too!!
Love all the Children’s work, fantastic idea, especially the ice cream cones!!”

“Fantastic picture Bethany! Well done!:-) Auntie Sarah”

Thank you all for taking time to post a comment. The children certainly seem to have enjoyed learning about an artist and made a super job of their portraits. We will put some different ones up soon as some of the children decided they would like to move on to foods that couldn’t be so easily glued – squishy cream and yoghurt portraits will follow.

Family Comments

It’s good to know that our families are enjoying visiting our blog. Teigan was pleased to see her photo with her favourite teddy:

“I love pinky, Ive had her since I was born”.

We loved meeting Pinky too so thanks for bringing her to Nursery Teigan.

Carmen has also been talking to her Mum about our new furniture:

“Carmen told me the nursery got table and chairs and a bed. I asked her what was her favourite she replied the table and chairs. I asked her why? She replied because they have coloured seats and my favourite is the red one.”

We are all very pleased with our new furniture too. We think that the children made a very good decision on how to spend their donation.
