The Primary 6 children have been visiting Nursery for some time now and are developing into kind and helpful buddies. Last week they came to chat to some of the children about a joint project. They listened to the ideas of the Nursery children and have gone back to their classroom to plan a game that they will be able to play together. Here you can see some of the buddies in action chatting to our Nursery children. Thank you for being good listeners Primary 6 – we are looking forward to you showing the children what you come up with as an activity.

Buddy Comment
Marli from Primary 6 has been looking at the photos of the buddies in Nursery:
“I really enjoy going to the nursery (;”
Thank you for leaving us a comment Marli. The children have been enjoying your visits and you and your friends are doing a super job as buddies.
Buddies
As part of our transition work, Primary 6 children visit Nursery every week to play and build relationships with our children. They have worked on what makes a good buddy and are showing great enthusiasm and skills with the younger children. Thank you Primary 6 and those children from Primary 7/6 who have been doing a great job. Keep up the good work – the Nursery children enjoy your visits.

Primary 6 In Nursery
As part of our transition work, Primary 6 has begun to visit Nursery in the last few weeks to begin to build relationships with our children. They have been discussing what makes a good buddy and they are learning how to communicate with children of this age.
Lots of super posters have been produced as part of Primary 6’s Literacy work and they have displayed one in each cloakroom area of Nursery. We hope that you are impressed with their ideas and the thought that has gone into their accompanying notice. They would greatly value feedback and suggestions from Nursery parents on their work so please add your comments to the sheet displayed as they would be very interested to hear what other ideas you might have.
Thank you to Primary 6 for all your hard work. We really appreciate the time you have taken to think about this important role.
Den Building
The children who are moving to Primary 1 at Hecklegirth next year were back out in the playground with their buddies and the rest of the school today. They seem to growing in confidence and having fun whether they are on the timber trail, playing football or on the number games. The buddies have also still been visiting Nursery on a Friday and we wanted to share this lovely photos of some of the older children making a den with the Nursery children last week. Well done for being such good role models – all the children love your visits, whether they have a buddy or not.

Buddy Fun
We have had another lovely comment about our buddies from Freya’s family:
“Freya loves when her buddy Tyra comes to visit her in nursery. It’s lovely for mummy & daddy to hear all the stories of the fun times they have together & reassuring Freya will have someone to look out for her in P1. Thank you Tyra “
Freya and Tyra are certainly having fun together in Nursery and the playground. Sounds like Freya will be looking forward to Tyra looking after her when she moves to Primary 1.
Thank You Danielle
After our buddies have had some super positive comments from parents, it’s lovely to see that they too have been looking on our blog. Danielle left this comment:
“Love playing with my buddy and I hope she does too! And also hope to make new friends in the nursery this year!”
Thanks very much Danielle for taking the time to visit the blog. We are sure that your new Nursery friends love seeing you as they look forward to your visits. Keep up the good work!
Brilliant Buddies
We have had another lovely comment about our buddies from Bethany’s family:
Bethany says “I like her name and I like the way she plays with me outside. I like the way she helps me jump.”
Keep up the good work buddies. You are obviously doing a good job of being ‘responsible citizens’ in helping the Nursery children become ‘confident individuals’.
Thank You Buddies
It seems that our P5 and P6 buddies are doing a good job as several families have commented on the children’s photos with their buddies:
“What a lovely idea 🙂 Liam looks like he’s having great fun. Thanks to his buddy x”
“Such a lovely Idea, Sophie loves her buddy and its nice to know she is being looked after. Thanks Hope!”
“Aw love this picture of Isla and Carmen. When Carmen told me that Isla was her Buddy I was very pleased nice to have someone you know that will look after your child in P1. I think it’s a great idea. Isla and Carmen are the best of friends. Carmen says it’s like having another big sister. Carmen made a lovely picture for Isla and Isla made Carmen a lovely bracelet. It’s going to be the start of a lovely friendship.”
Hopefully there will lots more opportunities to get to know each other this term. We plan to have another visit to the playground next week too so the buddies who were away on a school trip this week should be back. Thank you for your comments – we feel sure that the buddies will be delighted with them.
Playground Pals
The children who will be moving on to Primary 1 at Hecklegirth in August have been getting to know their buddies better recently. This week they enjoyed some visits to the playground to help prepare them for the transition to school. Primary 1 very kindly took the children out to the playground when it was empty and then they joined in a playtime with the rest of the school to help build their confidence. On both occasions the children’s buddies looked after them, making sure that they were confident and happy. As you can see from the photos, they even helped them to line up when the bell rang just like they will do in Primary 1.
I think you can see from the smiles on their faces that the relationships between the buddies and the future Primary 1 children are developing very well. Thank you to Primary 1 for looking after Nursery and thank you to all the buddies who did such a brilliant job at looking after their new little friends. The children were very excited about their visits to the playground so hopefully we will be able to arrange more visits soon.
