Welcome Visitors

Our Primary 6 buddies are always welcome visitors to Nursery and have been doing a super job of building relationships with our children. We have a few photos to share of their recent visits and hope that it’s not too long before the Nursery children and buddies can all meet again.

World Book Day

World Book Day is a great opportunity to celebrate our favourite books and to encourage the children to enjoy stories. This year, as part of a whole school celebration, the children were encouraged to to bring in their favourite books and some also decided to dress up which was lovely.
We were very lucky to have Primary 6 in Nursery as super visiting storytellers which produced a lovely reading afternoon for all. Thank you to all our families for participating in World Book Day. Staff and Primary 6 enjoyed sharing the stories from home.

Buddy Day

Buddy day is when groups of Primary 6 visit Nursery children to play with them. The buddies are beginning to get to know our children and are doing a great job. It’s lovely to see the older and younger children chatting together as they begin to build relationships. We are looking forward to lots more visits in the future and hope that Primary 6 enjoy their visits too.

Buddy Letters

Our Primary 6 buddies very kindly took the time to write letters to their Nursery child’s family so that they know a little about them and they introduced themselves to their parents/carers towards the end of term. We hope that this has eased a few of the worries you may have had about your child moving to Primary 1 and that you enjoy sharing the letters with your children.
Thank you Primary 6 children for doing a super job. The Nursery children are looking forward to seeing you again in August when they start in Primary 1.

Thank You Buddies

Emilia B.’s family has been looking at the photos of the children playing with their buddies:

“Emilia talks about her buddy a lot. Thanks to him and the other buddies she can’t wait to start primary school.”

I’m sure that the buddies will be delighted to hear that. We think that they are doing a great job and feel confident that the children will settle well in Primary 1.

Playground Buddies

As those moving to Primary 1 at Hecklegirth in August are now building relationships with their individual Primary 6 buddies, we have a timetable in place for the children to visit the school playground as well as the infant classrooms. The buddies go with our children on these playground visits to encourage and support them initially in the empty playground and then when the rest of the school is out.
We have already had two visits and Primary 6 showed impressive skills and attitude to ensure that our children had great fun and felt confident in the wider school environment. Thank you Primary 6 for doing such a super job. All the children came back to Nursery from the playground happy and confident. They are looking forward to their next visit when the rest of the school will be out to play with them.

Super Buddies

We have had two lovely comments on our recent post about the Primary 6 buddies visiting Nursery. One is from a P6 pupil who said,
“I like playing with the tv and playing outside with the nursery children.”

Our other comment was from the parent of a buddy:
“Lovely picture. Scott really enjoys his visits to the nursery. Thank you.”

Thank you both for taking the time to look at our blog. It was great to hear from you. The Nursery children certainly love the visits from Primary 6 who are doing a super job.

Buddies

Enid’s family has been looking of the photos of the Primary 6 buddies meeting our children’s families:

“Really lovely to have the opportunity to meet Enids buddy Katy, Enid is very fond of her. I think it’s a great idea to buddy the nursery children up with a P6 pupil, I think it will really help Enid settle into school.”

Thank you for your kind comment. We are certainly very impressed with our buddies and think that they will make a big difference to the children as they move to Primary 1.
