Congratulations to our most recent award winner. You thoroughly deserved your certificate.
Graduation Reminder
We are looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow (Wednesday) in the school hall for our little graduation to celebrate the end of our year. Please bring your child to Nursery at normal times and use the front door of the school when you return to the hall for our celebration at 10.45 or 1.30. We ask that you please park in the John Bell car park and not the staff car park. We hope that the boys and girls bring their good singing voices and we look forward to seeing you all. Here is a little selection of the children practising their songs today.
School Lunch
Last week Hecklegirth families joined their children to sample a school lunch in preparation for the move to Primary 1 in August. Macaroni cheese or delicious rolls were on offer and tasty looking ice cream and yoghurts for dessert seemed to go down well with most children. Hopefully everyone is now looking forward to their school lunches when they come to Primary 1 in August.
Safe In The Sun
As we have enjoyed the summer sunshine so much over the last few weeks, we read a book in Nursery called “Staying Safe in the Sun” and discussed what we know about looking after ourselves in the hot weather. Here is a selection of their ideas.
Cali: you wear a hat to keep safe. You have to drink lots of water.
Fraser: wear white clothes to keep cooler.
Imoen: I put suncream on to protect me from getting sunburned.
Kyle: go in the shade.
Matthew: you need to put suncream on your arms.
Archie: you can wear sunglasses.
Olivia: you need suncream.
Remy: put suncream on so your body doesn’t get burnt.
Mason: a big hat keeps your head cool.
Annalise: your skin goes red if it gets burned in the sun.
Louie: you put on sunglasses to keep your eyes safe.
Enid: put a sunhat on to keep your head safe.
Evan: put some more suncream on when you come out of the swimming pool.
Kai: you get burnt if you don’t put suncream on.
It sounds like the children have a good understanding of staying safe in the sun from these ideas. All they need to do now is enjoy the sunshine.
Nursery Memento
Enid’s family has been looking at our photos from Farmer’s Den:
“How lovely to capture a picture of these 3 on their last nursery trip together.”
It will hopefully be a lovely memento of time together in Nursery for three happy little friends.
Farmer’s Den Take Two
As promised, here is a selection of photos of the afternoon children enjoying all the different activities on our recent visit to Farmer’s Den. Click then click again for a closer look.
Well Done
Here are the latest recipients of our awards. Well done both of you. You thoroughly deserved your certificates.
Budding Horticulturalists
One of Dumfries and Galloway’s RAiSE (Raising Aspirations in STEM Education)Â team has been looking at the photos of the two year old children from the Sunshine Room growing cress.
Great to see science learning that is not only fascinating but tasty too! Looks like you have some budding horticulturists there.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on our post. This lovely little team certainly enjoyed seeing science in action.
Questionnaires
Thank you to those who have returned our evaluation questionnaires as well as the children’s flower sheets. We greatly value your input and will collate your responses to guide the development of our Nursery.
We ask that those who have not yet done so, please return these sheets as soon as possible since we add the flower sheets to each child’s special book before they are sent to Primary 1 which for some is in a different school so takes time to arrange. Thank you for your support.
Farmer’s Den
We would like to say a huge thank you to the Hecklegirth Fundraisers for paying for all the children to have a session at Farmer’s Den to celebrate our year in Nursery. Not only did the children run, jump and climb with boundless energy but they took some time out to draw or play with the bricks when they needed a little rest. Even Stan the Star made an appearance to join in the fun of what was a busy and very happy day.
Thank you to all those who have contributed to the fundraising activities this year as you helped the Nursery children have a super session at Farmer’s Den. These photos show the morning children having fun. Photos of the afternoon session will be posted soon.
