We hope that you have all been enjoying your summer holidays spending time with your families. To help you plan your next holiday, we have put the dates for the new school year in our “Dates for Your Diary” link on the right under “Support Information”.
This link will be updated with more detail as the year progresses, once we have other dates in place, so all the information you need for your calendar will be there to refer to throughout the school year. We hope that this is helpful for you and that you enjoy the rest of your holidays.
Holiday Fun
It was lovely to hear from one of our families in the holidays. They have been looking at our photos of the children making bug hotels.
“The kids look like they have had loads of fun making mini beast homes. Letti, Oscar and Harli made ‘bug boxes’ last week with Dad for our back garden.”
This sounds like great fun to do at home. I wonder how many minibeasts will come to live in your boxes? We are looking forward to seeing what has happened to our bug hotel when we return to Nursery.
Bug Hotel
After doing some home improvements on our fairy garden towards the end of term, the children decided that the minibeasts visiting our outdoor area might like a hotel to stay in on their visits. Our little hedgehog home looked as if it had been used over the past few months but we needed something for the smaller visitors to the garden.
As you can see, the children worked well together to make their minibeast hotel and it was finished off with a beautiful sign. We hope that our little visitors are enjoying their holidays in our garden and look forward to investigating who is living in our hotel when we return to Nursery.
Fairy Garden
After having decided one day to paint our fairy houses, the children were amazed one afternoon towards the end of term to find that a little fairy door had appeared in a corner of our garden. Excited that the fairies must want to live in our garden, some of the children decided to make it look better for them and worked very hard to pull out lots of weeds.
They very carefully hammered the chimneys in the roofs of the newly painted houses and made a little lake for the fairies so that they felt welcome in the corner of the garden. As you can see, the children did a super job preparing the area and we hope that our fairies enjoy the great DIY job that has been carried out on their homes.
Special Visitors
Hecklegirth had some exciting visitors last week when the Riding of the Marches principals arrived to see everyone. Here are some of the children waiting with the rest of the school to see the principals and their horses. Three of our pupils also had a lovely surprise when they were presented with medals for the Riding of the Marches Nursery ‘Design a Flag’ competition. Well done all of you.
We hope that the weather stays fine for Riding of the Marches and that you all have a lovely family day out if participating on Saturday.

Award Winners
Congratulations to our achievement award winners who were presented with their trophies at our recent graduation. Staff found it very difficult to make a final choice of who should be the morning and afternoon winners, as there were lots of potential candidates for this award, but we feel that Halle and Amelia are very worthy recipients of this annual trophy. Huge congratulations to you both and keep up the super work in Primary 1.
Graduation Take two
As promised, here is a selection of photos of the afternoon children at their graduation ceremony last week. Just like the morning children, they made us feel very proud of them all. Photos of our award winners will follow soon. We hope that you enjoyed our end of year celebration and would like to thank all our families who have provided such wonderful support.
Happy Holidays
We hope that you have enjoyed the first sunny day of your holidays and that you all have a lovely summer with your families. Please keep your eyes peeled here as we still have photos to share from the end of our year, including the graduation photos from our afternoon ceremony. We will continue to post over the next week or two.
Graduation Celebration
We were all so proud of the children at our graduation ceremony on Wednesday as they sang and danced to celebrate their year in Nursery. They showed great confidence to perform to their families and then to walk on stage on their own to shake hands and receive their certificates.
Thank you to Mr. Palmer for taking time to present the children with their awards and for being so patient to pose with each child so that a precious family photo could be taken. Thank you also to all the family and friends who attended our little ceremony and for your support throughout the year.
Here is a gallery of some of the morning children. I will put photos of the afternoon children on as soon as possible.
