After planting beans with Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, last term the children involved took home their beans to look after them. They talked about what they would have to do to help them grow and one clever little gardener brought in the results of his hard work to show us this week. Very well done! We think that you have done a fantastic job looking after your beans. Thank you for bringing it in to show us.
Muddy Chocolate Cake
Alisha’s family has been looking at the photos of the children playing in the mud kitchen:
“Alisha told me she was making chocolate cake for all her friends. She loves getting all muddy .”
The chldren certainly make a lot of cake in that kitchen and love being creative outdoors. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
Family Learning
Last week’s Family Learning activities were the first of the year and Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, enjoyed meeting new parents with their children as well as some that she got to know last year.
With her “Rhyme Time” activities, Eileen was matching the Nursery’s planning as she sent everyone a little home activity whether or not they attended her sessions. Here is a snapshot of some of our families joining in with the Family Learning sessions. We hope that everyone who took part enjoyed the sessions and look forward to more activities soon. Thank you very much to Eileen for organising a fun activity for all.

Roman’s family has been looking at our recent photos:
“Glad Roman has settled in really well so pleased”
It’s great to hear that the children are happy which makes for happy families too. Thank you so much for visiting our blog and taking the time to leave us a comment. We look forward to hearing from more of our families soon.

Happy And Busy
The first few weeks of Nursery seem to have flown by but we still have quite a selection of photos of the children in their first few days that we have not shared with you so here is a little gallery. As you can see, they look happy and busy in their play.
Click then click again on photos to make them bigger.
Word Of The Week
Last year, as a school staff, we took part in Word Aware training, which is a structured whole school approach to develop the vocabulary of children.
It is estimated that the average child learns 2000 – 3000 words per year every year throughout their schooling which equates to six to eight words a day on average. Children with good vocabulary go on to become good readers and vocabulary has a major impact on all areas of learning.
As part of our work to support the development of the children’s vocabulary, we will be including a “Word of the Week” in our planning and will focus on the appropriate use of that word in the Nursery environment. Sometimes the selected word may arise from a child led discussion and at other times it may be linked to our learning focus. We will share this word on the Nursery blog so that you can share in the fun with words at home.
Our “Word of the Week” next week will be “friend” as we begin to form relationships and build friendships in a new environment.
