Learning about Autumn this term has been helped greatly by the children’s super contributions to our display. Chestnuts, acorns and leaves of so many colours have been collected by the children and their families. Good talking skills have been evident as the children shared their finds with others and talked about where they had found them. Thank you so much to all those families who have taken the time to talk to their children about the signs of Autumn and have helped them find examples. Here is a selection of the things the children have brought in.
Very well done to last week’s award winners. We are all delighted to award you with your certificates which were very well deserved.
We hope that today’s meeting about the new Nursery meal menu and taster session was helpful. Thank you to those who attended, providing an audience for the children who had been learning some Autumn songs. We really appreciate your support and we hope that you enjoyed their performance as much as they seemed to. One of our aims is to develop ‘confident individuals’ and many of our children showed themselves to be exactly that in performing in front of a large audience. Well done girls and boys!

One afternoon recently we decided to make apple crumble as we were given a gift of a big bag of apples. The children were able to learn about the importance of hygiene and safety in the kitchen, fine motor control, counting and chopping skills, using the technology of a microwave and the effect of heat on the apples.
Here are some of the children demonstrating their skills. I wonder if they might try to make crumble at home now that they have learned what to do?
Staff from Enterprising DG will meet you tomorrow, Wednesday 10th October, to talk about the new menus being rolled out for our children next term. These will be of interest as, from January, the children will be entitled to a free lunch as part of the early access to 1140 hours. The menu is compliant with the “Setting The Table” document and both HMIe and Care Inspectorate recommendations.
A tasting session will follow a short presentation on the menus and nutritional advice. We will conclude the session with the children singing for you so there will be lots to enjoy. Nursery entrance will be open for an 11.15 and 2.15 start. We look forward to seeing you there. Here are some of the afternoon children having a little practice of their songs today.

Just look at this wonderful photo that was brought in to Nursery recently. Those of you who were with us last year may remember planting sunflower seeds and this is an example of how big one of them grew. We are very impressed with yet another super gardener who must have done a great job of looking after her plant. Very well done!
As part of our Health and Wellbeing focus, we read a story together about a little bear who felt ill and we talked about who looks after us when we are ill. The children are now becoming more confident to talk with relevance and came up with some lovely suggestions.

Alisha: Kobe looks after me. He sits beside me and keeps me company.
Arthur: my Mummy and Daddy. They give me medicine.
Archie: Mummy looks after me. She gives me medicine and a drink.
