Burns Day
On Friday we celebrated Burns Day with shortbread, tattie scones, oatcakes, cheese and, of course, Irn Bru. In true tradition some of the children even had a little taste of haggis, neeps and tatties and tried out some Highland dancing which was great fun. We appreciate our families making a super effort to provide the children with ‘a touch o’ tartan’ – we thought that they looked wonderful.
Word Of The Week
Our “Word of the Week” this week in the Raindrop Room is ‘Winter’ while the Rainbow Room will be learning to use ‘artist’ in their discussions.
Great New Building
Emilia’s family has left us a lovely comment about our new Raindrop Room:
“What a great new building at Hecklegirth Nursery, very welcoming. there’s lots of space for all sorts of activities; great little puppet theatre. The staff have done wonders with it in the short time it has been open. A lot of good ideas and hard work involved to achieve it. Looking forward to seeing the garden when your little helpers get into it. Well done everybody”
Thank you so much for your kind comments. They are greatly appreciated. We continue to develop our Nursery and look forward to it evolving as time passes.
Winter Is Here
The focus of discussion recently has been about Winter and how it affects our lives. Here are a few ideas from the Raindrop Room.
Fern: frost comes out at night – it’s crunchy.
Leah: the trees are bare.
Jasmin: there’s snow.
Louie: there’s frost on the grass.
Evan: we have to wear a hat and scarf.
Mason: you can blow away.
Charlotte: all the leaves are off the trees.
Archie: it’s cold. You need to wear a suit in the garden. You need gloves.
Imogen: the snow comes and it’s frosty.
Ellie: the ice makes the leaves go to frost.
Remy: the trees go icy.
Skye: we need to wear a hat.
Macaulay: the ice melts when it’s sunny.
Marnie: you need to wear a coat, hat and gloves.
We think that you are developing a good idea of what Winter is like. Great ideas everyone.
Car Park
We would like to remind everyone not to park in the staff car park as staff have staggered start times and currently are not all able to park to begin work. For those who are accessing Nursery outside the 8.30-9.00 and 3.00 times, we suggest that you use the John Bell car park or park on Solway Street, walk down the lane and around the car park path thus avoiding walking through the car park. Thank you for your co-operation – it is greatly appreciated.
Winter Wonderland
As the weather has become colder, we have been talking about Winter and the changes to the environment. Inspired by the frosty weather, some of the children took the opportunity to make wintry trees and, as you can see, they took a lot of care producing some wonderful pieces of work.
Congratulations
Thank you to Carol Moyes, Dumfries and Galloway RAiSE teacher, who left us a kind comment re our recently published inspection report:
“Congratulations! Lovely to see your outdoor space being praised in the report; doesn’t surprise me given the great work you share on your blog.
Well done!
Carol Moyes
RAiSE Teacher”
Thank you very much for all your support on our blog. We appreciate your kind comment.
Creativity With Pipettes
Having used pipettes for some science activities before Christmas, we decided to experiment with them in the art area. The children in the Rainbow Room enjoyed being creative with the paint and developed their fine motor skills as they took care when applying it to the kitchen roll that was their canvas. We love the concentration on the children’s faces as they created their individual works of art and we think that the end results are super.

“Very Good” Inspection
In October the Nursery had an unannounced inspection by the Care Inspectorate (SCSWIS) and the results of that inspection, over one and a half days, have now been published.
We are delighted to report that we were graded as “very good” in both areas of the inspection which covered the quality of the environment, care and support we provide. As you can imagine, we are delighted to receive this very positive report and will use it as a stepping stone to further develop our Nursery.
If you would like to read the full report, please click on the link on the right entitled Care Inspection Report (under Useful Links)where you can put in a search for “Daycare of Children” and “Annan”. This will show you our report.
