Balance Bikes

I wonder if the children have been out on their bikes while they have been on holiday? They were working on their biking skills at the end of term as we borrowed a set of balance bikes and helmets to give them some extra practice in the school playground. We could certainly see great progress in their balance and control so we hope that some have been able to play on their bikes in the holidays.

Snack By The Fire

The weather was kind to us towards the end of last term and both rooms took the opportunity to have a fire and an outdoor snack. The children have quickly learned the safety rules when we have a fire and it’s a great opportunity for them to develop their social skills as they tend to sit and chat a lot round a fire.

Our Community

Visits out in to our local community are always popular with the children and those in the Raindrop Room had several walks out towards the end of term to find out about our local shops and businesses. They found out about the buildings on our High Street and took a trip to Tesco where they were very excited to have a look at the Hallowe’en displays. Learning how to pay at the self-serve till and the decision about where to put their tokens was all part of the experience.

Hands On Technologies

Lots of our children love developing their Technologies skills and have been learning how to safely use a hammer. They experienced challenge as they had to follow instructions to stay safe, have an awareness of risk and show concentration and perseverance with this tricky activity. Hammering the nails into the wood and then positioning the elastic bands on their work, to form shapes, helped to develop the children’s motor skills. What a great sense of achievement the children have after this activity – it’s no surprise that it’s always very popular.

Outdoor Adventure

The nature area at the front of the school provides a great opportunity for a little adventure as part of our day in Nursery. As well as building confidence in the wider school environment, the children love visiting this super outdoor area be it for a story, a game or simply to explore nature to investigate the signs of the changing season.
