Friday was the last day in the Sunshine Room for Miss Awde, our Modern Apprentice. She will now move to the Rainbow Room for the rest of the term. We are sure that the children in the Rainbow Room will be happy to have Miss Awde back but Sunshine children will, of course, still be able to enjoy playing with her in the Nursery garden. Thank you Miss Awde for all your hard work in the Sunshine Room this term.
Madison Enjoyed the Sack Race
We’re glad to hear that Madison and her Mum enjoyed Friday’s fun activities:
“madison loved it today, the cold didnt dampen there spirits. she enjoyed the sack race best, and loved showing everyone her madal, all the kids done brill x”
We agree that the children were brilliant. I wonder which activity other people liked best?
Three Cheers
Three cheers for adults and children alike who braved the cold wind today to join in our Fun Activity session. We thought that we should perhaps have had hot chocolate as a treat instead of ice lollies but hopefully everyone still managed to enjoy themselves. We are sure that, like us, you were all very proud of the children taking part in their activities. They showed fantastic behaviour, evidence of the skills that they had learned and a great team spirit. Thank you to everyone who came to support us today and thank you also to Primary 7 who were so helpful and polite. Most of all we have to say very well done to all the children of Hecklegirth Nursery – you were wonderful and fully deserved those medals.
Running, Jumping and Balancing
Running, jumping and balancing are some of the skills we have been practising for our Fun Activity session on Friday. The children have enjoyed working together in teams to take part in a range of activities on the school field. We hope that lots of families will be able to encourage the children on Friday when they show you what they can do. Let’s just all hope that the weather is kind to us.
From Tiny Seeds …
We Love Sparky
Everyone loved Sparky, who helped us learn about staying safe near electricity, and Corey’s Mum’s left a comment on his photo:
“Corey keeps saying at home he want to play puppets an now I know why lol Corey’s looks so excited”
The children certainly were very excited to meet him. Thank you Sparky for a brilliant visit.
Who Lives In Our Garden?
As we continue to learn about growth and life cycles, we have been extending our learning to the outdoors where the children have been searching for minibeasts. Gardening tools, magnifying boards and clipboards have been at the ready as the children search for evidence of minibeasts in our garden. Here is some of the detective team in action.
Health and Hygiene
Rachel, our School Nurse, paid us a visit last week to teach the children about a healthy lifestyle. We talked about exercise, healthy foods and good hygiene as well as the importance of sleep.
A special magic machine then helped us to check how good we are at washing our hands. The children had to wash their hands, apply the “magic spray” then check under Rachel’s special machine to see if they could still see any germs. I think they were quite amazed to see that their hands were not as clean as they thought so, hopefully, handwashing should be more thorough from now on.
Staying Safe
Staying safe near electricity was the theme of one of our activities this week when we visited the school library. Andy told us all about the dangers of electricity and what we should do when we see someone doing something dangerous. If you suddenly hear your child shout “Stop!” and raise his or her hand, just ask them what they think you’ve done that is dangerous because they are very keen to watch out for grown-ups doing dangerous things. The children were very focussed during this discussion and enjoyed listening out for some of Andy’s questions about when we should say, “Stop!”
Meeting Sparky, Andy’s clever bird topped off a very enjoyable visit even though he was a little rascal who kept trying to bite off their fingers. As you can see from their faces, the children loved Sparky so thank you to Andy for bringing him along.
