Last week we had a visit from Beth who talked to us about money and how we use it. We learned to identify the different coins, enjoyed a super story that we were able to do lots of actions to and had fun doing some coin rubbings. Thank you to Beth for a fun learning experience.
Hecklegirth Gardeners
We have a message from Ollie’s Dad about the potatoes we planted at their allotment:
“Boys and girls. Just to let you know the potatoes you all planted have started to shoot so please pop by for a visit. Not quite ready for picking yet.”
Well done everyone! You are turning into expert gardeners.
Bye Bye Butterflies
After weeks of carefully watching the progress of our caterpillars from tiny little squiggles to big fat caterpillars who formed their cocoons, we finally saw our beautiful butterflies emerging at the end of last week. After a few days of nurturing them on sugary water and slices of oranges, the time came to release them. We could think of no better place to set them free than our outdoor classroom among the buttercups, trees and long grass.
Initially they seemed to be a little nervous of leaving their safe home but once we’d all had a close look at them and they had felt the sunshine on their wings, they flew away to cheers and clapping from everyone. We hope that we have captured the joy on the children’s faces as they watched their butterflies flying off to their new life.

More Buddy Comments
Amelia from Primary 6 has been commenting on some of our posts on Nursery and Primary 6 buddies:
“amazingly me and my beautiful buddies played for half an hour it was great fun”
“Nate wanted to build the tallest tower in the world but in they end it fell over with a SMASH!!!”
You and the rest of your class are proving to be brilliant buddies Amelia. Thank you for taking time to comment on our blog and keep up the good work.
Farmer’s Den
Corey’s Mum made a comment on one of the photos from our recent summer outing:
“Corey had a brilliant time at the cinema and farmers den thank you to all the staff for giving the kids a lovely treat”
Amelia from Primary 6 also commented on our outing:
“It seems as if my amazing buddy Nate enjoyed it at farmers den !”
They certainly did seem to enjoy their day and everyone behaved beautifully.
Snack Time
It seems to have been so hectic in Nursery recently that the days are simply flying by. However, we did find time to visit the dining hall for our snack one day to give the children an idea of what it will be like when they move to Primary 1. As you can see they were all quite happy to enjoy something to eat in a different environment so this bodes well for the next exciting step of school lunches.
Tired But Happy!
Harli’s Mum made a photo comment on one of our trip photos:
“What a brilliant pic! Harli really enjoyed herself and was very tired on monday night after all the running about at Farmers Den!”
They do look very happy in that picture, don’t they? It’s not surprising that she was tired after her day out – what a lot of running about they all did.
End of Year Fun
Our recent end of year outing to the cinema followed by lunch and a play session at Farmer’s Den seemed to be very popular with both the morning and the afternoon children. Thank you to all those parents who came with us as volunteers and to staff at the cinema and Farmer’s Den who made us feel very welcome. The children certainly seemed suitably exhausted at the end of their busy day.
Look What We’ve Grown
Last week’s sunshine and showers seemed to bring a sudden spurt of growth in our vegetable garden. The children have been excited to see the little courgettes starting to form and all the other vegetables which are showing great progress. Well done children and all those parents who helped in this project – you’ve obviously got great gardening skills. Thank you also to Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for providing us with all our equipment and for organising this project. It’s been great fun and a super learning experience.

Monday’s Outing
We would like to remind everyone that Monday (17th June) is our special outing for the morning children. We look forward to seeing you at the cinema at 9.30 and children can be collected from Farmer’s Den at 1.45. Please remember that there will be no afternoon Nursery session on Monday but we look forward to seeing you again on Tuesday.
