Word Of The Week

‘Community’ is “Word of the Week” in the Raindrop Room while those in the Rainbow Room will focus on ‘time’.

Our Favourite Books

As part of our World Book day discussions the children in the Rainbow Room talked about their favourite books and who reads to them.

Alex: the tractor book, my Mummy reads it.
Berrie: princess stories are the best.
Tom: I like “Tom the Tractor”, Daddy reads it to me.
Isaac M: “Bing the Bunny” book, my Mummy reads it at bedtime.
Sophie G.: we get books from the library.
Alfie H.: “Room on the Broom”.
Leigha: princess books.
Alfie J.: the monster book.
Danielle: “Peppa Pig”. I read it myself.
Zack: “Paw Patrol, my brother and Daddy read it.
Jessica: “Max and the Kitten”, my Nanny reads it.
Freddie: “Tom the Tractor”.
Poppy: “Peppa Pig”. Mummy and me read it.
Jackson: “Captain Underpants”. My brother reads me it.

It sounds like we have lots of lucky children listening to stories at home.

Archeologists

As a development from their focus on ‘history’ as “Word of the Week”, the Raindrop Room has been very busy discussing dinosaurs. This dig for bones in the sand was very popular and triggered some great comments about their finds and about the work of an archaeologist.

Isaac W.: we have to flick the sand carefully.
Barclay: I found one. The bones are from the legs.
Mason: this dinosaur eats meat and roots. They lived in the Jurassic world.
Ella: these two bones are the same.
Emily: they (archaeologists) dig for bones.
Noah: dinosaurs live in the forest.
Barclay: you slide the sand with the brush. They (archaeologists) hunt for treasure.
Kara: dinosaurs lived a long time ago.

The Three Little Pigs

Having shown great enthusiasm for their focus book “The Three Little Pigs” last week, this group in the Rainbow Room extended their learning to the outdoor area, enthusiastically retelling the tale and using it as part of their imaginative play. As you can see, they even turned into designers and builders when they created their own ‘house of sticks’ in the garden. Super team work!

Pampering

Tilly’s family has been looking at the photos of our pampering:

“Tilly absolutely loved the pamper corner, this is right up her street! She came home and gave her whole family a wonderful hand massage!!”

Well done Tilly for being so kind to your family.

Miss Fleming enjoyed her time being pampered too:

“I thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the pamper corner. The children were all so gentle when giving hand massages. It was very calming and relaxing.”

It was lovely that the children were being thoughtful towards other children and adults alike. Sounds like we may have to set the pamper corner up again.

Pamper Corner

As part of discussions about their emotions, those in the Raindrop Room were learning about how important it is to be kind to others and to think about their feelings as well as our own.
In a quiet corner a little pamper area was set up to help everyone relax and feel happy. As well as enjoying the sensory experience themselves, lots of children were being kind to others and using the products on other children and adults. The smells and smiles were just wonderful as they tried everything out.

Selfie Booth

After the ‘emotions’ self-portrait paintings by the Raindrop Room, we can share a different type of self-portrait as a result of the Rainbow Room’s ‘selfie booth’. The children developed their Technologies skills by using phones and the iPad to take photos of themselves. They loved experimenting with the technology to produce different types of photos and had great fun sharing the results with their friends. As you can see, this was certainly a very popular learning activity.

As the children in the Raindrop Room spent time talking about their emotions, some worked on producing a self portrait to express different emotions. You may have noticed their display in the corridor but we thought we would share a selection of their work here.
