The children are now becoming more confident to access outdoor play as well as indoor activities. They are building relationships and developing good teamwork skills as they investigate the climbing frame, the mud kitchen and all the different opportunities that the garden provides. As the weather has got a little cooler, the children are now wearing waterproof suits for outdoor play so their own clothes should hopefully stay clean.
Growing Project
Those who helped to plant vegetables last term as part of a Family Learning project may have noticed our crop in the raised beds in the Nursery garden. Some of the children harvested the carrots at the start of term and they seemed pleased with their efforts. Well done everyone who helped in this project and thanks to Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, for her work last term to make this project happen.
Learning The Rules
Callum’s Mum enjoyed his photo showing us the rules:
“We asked Callum about this photo and he said “we have walking legs in nursery not running ones”. He also told us that he has to help tidy up toys. Hope this happens at home?”
Well done Callum! It sounds like you’ve got a good idea of what the rules are. We hope that you are continuing the good tidying up at home to help your Mum and Dad.
Nursery Rules
The children have been talking about rules in Nursery and why we need rules. You could ask them at home if they can remember what we agreed on. Here are some of the children showing us the rules to help everyone remember them.
First Drawings
You may have noticed that the children’s work is beginning to appear on the walls in Nursery and the corridor. Most have now produced their first drawing or painting and here is a little sample of their efforts. I wonder if the children can find their own drawing? If they are not sure, click then click again on the photo and you should be able to see their names.
Sophie’s Sunflower
Another sunflower from last year has grown successfully. Sophie’s Mum sent us a photo in her garden with a message.
“Sophie wanted to show nursery her sunflower, it has grow up to her chin and when we got home from Spain it had flowered too! We are very pleased its grown as we aren’t very good at gardening usually! Missing you all but enjoying primary 1.”
Well done Sophie! That’s a super sunflower. We are glad to hear that you are enjoying Primary 1.
Family Learning
We would like to draw your attention to our first Family Learning event of the year on Thursday 4th September. Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, is planning two morning and two afternoon sessions for you and your child to decorate canvas squares for a wall hanging in the Family Room (opposite the school hall).
A letter will be given out in Nursery this week explaining Family Learning to everyone and you can sign up for the sessions, if you wish, on the grids on display on the Family Learning board in the Nursery corridor. We hope that lots of families take the opportunity to join in this fun activity.
First Days
We hope that you all enjoyed your first few days in Nursery and are looking forward to attending for a full session this week.
However, if your child takes a little while to feel comfortable, please allow him/her time to take things at their pace: we, as adults, cope with change in different ways and at different rates and children are exactly the same. If you have any concerns about your child, please speak to staff who can offer you advice based on their experiences.
Here are a few more photos of the children getting to know their new environment.
Settling In
It’s great to see that another family has left a comment on our post showing the children playing:
“Orla is really concentrating there!! Glad she is enjoying nursery as is Emma. Looking forward to seeing how much they develop over the coming months. Lovely nursery and lovely staff.”
Thank you for your kind comments. We are looking forward to getting to know all the children and to seeing how they develop too.
Happy Boys
Joe and Callum’s parents have enjoyed seeing the first pictures of their children on the blog and have kindly left us lovely comments:
“Joe is loving his time at his new nursery. His favourite toys so far is the farm set. Looking forward to more pictures and news !”
“Was so lovely to see Callum’s picture. We are so happy at how Callum has settled in.”
We are delighted to hear that Joe and Callum are enjoying Nursery. Thank you for taking the time to leave comments. We would love to hear from lots of parents and will continue to add more photos and news as the weeks progress.
