Caterpillar Creations

It required concentration and good fine motor control but the children in the Rainbow Room showed great perseverance to make these little caterpillars. The children were so proud of their work that we decided to use them as part of our display on graduation day and you can see a little group making a “grass” stand for them. We think that these caterpillars helped to make a lovely setting for our special day.

Outdoor Music

Everything always seems such fun to the children when it’s outdoors and they certainly enjoyed making musical instruments in the garden towards the end of term. As some started to see others performing in a little band, they too wanted to make their own instruments and before long we had music ringing out all over the outdoor area. Here are a few of the children busy at work.

Learning Through Play

Problem solving and teamwork are important skills that the children will need as they progress and develop throughout their lives, even into the world of work. These children showed both of these skills as they played with the construction tubes, working out how to make a slide for the balls. As you can see, they showed ingenuity and great co-operation which resulted in success, with the children having provided a great learning experience for themselves.

Symmetry In Art

As we looked after our little caterpillars we talked about what they might look like when they became butterflies and took the opportunity to develop the children’s understanding of symmetry. Lots of children enjoyed creating their own symmetrical pictures in the art area and produced some beautiful butterflies which are all different. Can you spot your butterfly here?

Keep Annan Tidy

We had a visit from the council’s community safety team towards the end of term to learn all about littering and keeping the community tidy. One of the highlights of the event was the visit by the mechanical road sweeper. The children loved having the opportunity to operate some of the buttons and sit up in the driving seat. Thank you to the community safety team for taking so much time with the children to answer all their questions and for making sure that everyone who wanted to was able to sit up in the cab. Let’s hope that the children remember all that you told them about keeping our community clean and tidy.

Great Glasses

Sometimes in Nursery an idea can start from one child then others take it on board and join in. Here a group of children decided that they wanted glasses as part of their play so they got busy in the drawing area and, with a little guidance, they made their glasses then spent the rest of the session making good use of them in their play. We think that they look great.

Please And Thank You

In a discussion about good manners, the children came up with some suggestions of when and where we use them.

Louie: you need to say please and thank you.
Leah: say it in the dinner hall when we’re in P1.
Evan G.: when someone gives you something.
Archie: you say thank you in the dinner hall.
Mason: when we want milk or water we say please.
Charlotte: when someone gives you a sweetie, you say thank you.
Jasmin: you say please and thank you for food and drinks and toys.
Emilia B.: every single time you say please and thank you when someone gives you something.
Alisha: I say please and thank you to my friends when they pass the butter.
Fern: say thank you if you get something.
Robin: when someone gives you a toy, you say thank you.
Macaulay: say thank you when Mummy buys you sweeties.
Remy: when the big ladies give you stuff.
Matthew: we say thank you when we have a sandwich at snack.

We are pleased to say that the children do remember to use good manners most of the time in Nursery.
