The weather was kind to us towards the end of last term and both rooms took the opportunity to have a fire and an outdoor snack. The children have quickly learned the safety rules when we have a fire and it’s a great opportunity for them to develop their social skills as they tend to sit and chat a lot round a fire.

Hecklegirth Hairdressers
After lots of enthusiasm around their pet shop and vet’s recently, the children in the Rainbow Room decided to have a change and have a hairdresser’s in their role play area. So far it has certainly proved to be very popular.
Lots Of Fun
Tilly’s family has been looking at the photos of our visit to the school nature garden:
“Love this! Looks lots of fun in the nature garden, you guys are so lucky to have such a fab outdoor area!”
We are very lucky to have this area to go on little adventures and the children always have great fun there.
Leaf Blowing
Having collected Autumn leaves on a walk, some children created a picture of themselves blowing the leaves in the air. Have a look in the corridor to see lots more examples of their work.
Relax With Gloop
We make lots of different versions of slime and gloop in Nursery but they are always popular. The children love the process of making them and the sensory experience, when playing with them, can be very relaxing and calming as well as developing the children’s fine motor skills.
Our Community
Visits out in to our local community are always popular with the children and those in the Raindrop Room had several walks out towards the end of term to find out about our local shops and businesses. They found out about the buildings on our High Street and took a trip to Tesco where they were very excited to have a look at the Hallowe’en displays. Learning how to pay at the self-serve till and the decision about where to put their tokens was all part of the experience.
Hands On Technologies
Lots of our children love developing their Technologies skills and have been learning how to safely use a hammer. They experienced challenge as they had to follow instructions to stay safe, have an awareness of risk and show concentration and perseverance with this tricky activity. Hammering the nails into the wood and then positioning the elastic bands on their work, to form shapes, helped to develop the children’s motor skills. What a great sense of achievement the children have after this activity – it’s no surprise that it’s always very popular.
Outdoor Adventure
The nature area at the front of the school provides a great opportunity for a little adventure as part of our day in Nursery. As well as building confidence in the wider school environment, the children love visiting this super outdoor area be it for a story, a game or simply to explore nature to investigate the signs of the changing season.
Marble Art
We provide lots of different opportunities for the children to express themselves creatively in the art area and would like to share a little gallery here of some experimenting with marbles in paint. The children’s work is currently displayed in the school corridor beside the hall so have a look if you’re passing by.
Learning As We Bake
Learning to follow instructions, such as counting and measuring ingredients, is essential when following a recipe, and therefore baking helps to develop the children’s “Numeracy and Mathematics” and listening skills while prediction, observation and discussion about the potential changes to their ingredients, as they are mixed and baked, develop their learning in “Sciences”. These happy little bakers also learned to use the mixer and set the oven to develop their understanding in “Technologies” so this baking session provided so much learning in one activity. Best of all, of course, is the all important tasting session once the cakes are baked.
