Parent Council

Hi All

Please see attached some information about Hecklegirth Parent Council, I have recently taken over as chairperson for the Parent Council alongside my existing role on the fundraising committee. I am trying to reach as many parents/carers within the school environment as possible to ensure everyone is receiving information. The next meeting will take place at 6pm in the school staffroom on Wednesday 6th November (hope to see you there).

If you need to contact the parent council you can do this via the school office, myself or email hecklegirthparentcouncil@gmail.com please also follow us on Facebook searching for Hecklegirth Primary School News.

If you need to contact for anything relating to fundraising you can do this via the school office, myself or email hecklegirthfundraisers@gmail.com please also follow us on Facebook searching for Hecklegirth Fundraisers.

Information for both is also available on the notice boards as you enter the school through the main door.

Thanks  Stacy Wigham

Balancing Challenge

An obstacle course always provides a great outdoor challenge and lots of the children love helping to design a course themselves. This little activity provided the opportunity to develop the children’s balancing skills and some even took on the additional challenge of carrying cups of water along the course. What great concentration you can see on their faces as they try to get to the end of the plank without spilling any water.

Jackson Pollock

Various methods were experienced by the children in the Rainbow Room when trying to recreate the work of the artist Jackson Pollock. Brushes, pipettes, string and elastic bands over a box were all available and the children loved trying out them all.
Berrie: it’s splat paint.
Freddie: I like messy paint.
Poppy: it’s like Jackson Pollock the painter.
Tom: he was a painter. He lived in America.
Kaius: we splatted paint, dropped paint, played music with paint.

Hallowe’en

It was lovely to see everyone back in Nursery today and some took the chance to get in the mood for Hallowe’en. We would like to remind you that the Hallowe’en disco is on Wednesday night in the school hall from 6.00 – 7.00 for Nursery children with an entry of £1. An adult must stay with Nursery children.
As the school photographer will be in on Thursday 31st October, the children can choose to come to Nursery dressed up on Friday 1st November if they wish.

Start Of Term

We hope that you have had a lovely holiday with your families and look forward to seeing you all tomorrow, Monday 28th October, for the start of the new term. We will be open as normal from 8.00 a.m.
Our “Word of the Week” this week in the Rainbow Room will be ‘graph‘ while the Raindrop Room will use ‘Hallowe’en’ as their focus.

Arcimboldo Artists

As part of our learning about Autumn at the end of term, some of the children looked at the work of the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. We discussed his “Autumn” portrait and learned how he used food to depict the seasons as faces then we used various materials to make our own portraits. As you can see, some of the children have been inspired by learning about this artist and have produced some super work.

Robin: an artist can be a boy or a girl. The artist is Arcimboldo. He made pictures with food.
Kyla: I’ve made eyes with carrots and I’ve made hair and sweet banana for my nose.
Ella: I did a wink for my eyes. The nose is a sweetie banana.
Skye D.: I’ve used bows in my hair and pasta for my mouth.
Fern: the red stuff is the hair, curly hair like mine.
Joely: I used laces for my hair and carrots for my eyes.
Sophie: I used glue and sweets to make my picture.
Leighanna: I used dolly mixtures for my eyes.

Problem Solvers

One of the most popular experiments that the Rainbow Room children have enjoyed has been making slime and, in the true spirit of experiments, their efforts did not always work. They listened well to follow instructions then made their observations once they started playing with the slime and realised that they needed to make changes. Sometimes it was too runny, other times too crumbly so they tried a few different methods before they were happy with the end result. This was a great learning experience and the children proved themselves to be good little problem solvers as they tried to make their experiment work.

Balance Bikes

I wonder if the children have been out on their bikes while they have been on holiday? They were working on their biking skills at the end of term as we borrowed a set of balance bikes and helmets to give them some extra practice in the school playground. We could certainly see great progress in their balance and control so we hope that some have been able to play on their bikes in the holidays.
