Christmas Hampers

Thank you very much to all parents and staff who have contributed to our Christmas hampers and also to those who have returned their raffle squares sheets. We hope to receive more donations to add to our hampers in the next week or two so that we have some lovely prizes when our numbers are drawn at our Christmas singing event on 16th December. Squares can still be returned next week too. Thank you for your support.

Music Music Everywhere

Musical instruments have been very popular in the Rainbow Room recently as the children have learned about various types of instruments and the sounds they make. Little bands have sprung up everywhere inspired by using real instruments and watching bands and orchestras on the Promethean board.
We hope that you enjoy the photos of our budding bands people confidently trying a new experience.

Thank You

Those in the Raindrop Room enjoyed taking part in Yvonne and Louise’s information and taster session just as much as those in the Rainbow Room last week. We were delighted that parents, grandparents and childminders were able to join us and everyone appreciated the suggestions and the opportunity to taste different foods.
A few more comments included:
“Very informative, great to see the kids trying different foods. The banana ice-cream was really good. Some very useful tips”.
“Explained all the foods, colours and about textures, very tasty”.
“Good to see the kids try different stuff and some of the stuff was nice”.
“Very informative and useful information and great for the children to try things they maybe wouldn’t try at home”.

Thank you so much to Yvonne and Louise for their time and super advice. Children, staff and our families all thoroughly enjoyed your sessions.

Health Information And Taster Session

Yvonne and Louise from the Health Improvement Team visited us last week for an informal information and taster session. It was lovely to have so many adults from our families joining the children and staff to learn about healthy snack options and it was great to see children and adults alike trying some foods for the first time. Some of the recipes sound delicious and we plan to try them out in Nursery with the children. The healthy banana ice-cream was particularly popular and we think that a few homes in Annan may be trying that idea out soon.
Thank you to the adults for taking the time to give us some feedback on this visit as it helps us evaluate and plan for the future. Comments included:
“Very informative and colourful”
“Very informative session and lovely to spend time with my child encouraging her to eat healthy. We all love the banana ice-cream and the Sharon fruit. Thank you”.
“Very helpful information, well presented”.

Here are some of the children and adults enjoying the session in the Rainbow Room.

The Ice Bowl

A very exciting ice bowl arrived in the Rainbow Room this week and there was lots of discussion and interest in it when it appeared on a table. Photos were taken by the children and they examined it closely to see what was frozen inside it. We captured some of the children’s comments as they felt the ice bowl and talked about how it was created. This activity certainly engaged the children to think about freezing and melting.
Euan: it’s water turned into ice.
Maja: there’s a pompom.
Danielle: there’s a star. It’s melting now.
Jackson: it’s hot inside. That’s why it’s melting.
Zack: ice is water.
Berrie: there’s Lego in the ice. It will take time to get it because it’s frozen.
Tom: you use ice for drinks, it’s made of water.
Arthur: ice is water that’s frozen. There’s stuff inside so we can see if it sticks.
Isaac: it’s cold. It’s made of water.
Jackson: it’s smaller when we put water on it – it’s melting.
Emmie: it’s ice. Water has to be put in the cold to make it.

Making Soup

Making soup has been a popular activity in the Raindrop Room lately and this little group showed great skills and safety awareness to prepare all the vegetables for a delicious big pan of soup, just perfect for a frosty day. Everything always tastes good when you make it yourself and the children seemed to enjoy the results of their hard work.

Worm Maths

Children are often intrigued by the minibeasts they see outdoors as part of their play and finding a worm can arouse great curiosity. Some of the children in the Rainbow Room talked about where worms live and how we could find them. They wondered how many might live in their garden so decided to do a little survey. As you can see, they were enthusiastic to do lots of digging to find worms and developed their Maths skills by measuring them to find the shortest and longest and then counted them each day to record on a graph. What great little investigative scientists they were and it was great to see how gentle all the children were with the worms that they found.
