Precious Time

It was lovely to hear from Tilly’s family:

“Absolutely love your last 2 comments (on “Learning is Fun” post below), couldn’t have put it better myself! It certainly is precious time and we are going to use it wisely. Stay safe Mrs Carruthers x”

We really appreciate you getting in touch and hope that you are all staying safe and healthy. We would love to hear from more of our families about what they have been doing as we miss them all.

Learning Is Fun

We hope that you are all staying safe and healthy at home. We would like to share some suggestions of activities you may like to do with your children. • Look at books with your family.
• Sing songs and dance.
• Help tidy away your toys.
• Set the table, counting out the plates and cutlery.
• Help write shopping lists and find the items in the shop.
• Discuss the ingredients that will be used for meal preparation and help to make a meal.
• Bake some cakes.
• Help to weed the garden.
• Play games and practise listening and taking turns.
• Build dens.
• Dress up.
• Let your imagination run wild!! Children are great at creating their own fun and games.
• Most importantly play and have fun, spending time with your loved ones.
• Children learn from everything they do and can gain so much from the interactions they have with the people around them. Make the most of this precious time with your little ones.

Outdoor Stories

I wonder how many of you have been enjoying stories with your families this week? It’s a great chance to revisit your old favourites and to get to know some not so familiar. You could look online for stories as well as enjoying those you may have at home. These children from the Raindrop Room enjoyed looking at books outdoors recently which you could perhaps do if you have a garden? Please leave a comment to let us know if you have enjoyed any good stories this week and we can share it with others.

Tips

When things change or don’t go to plan, as in our current situation, young children can often feel confused, worried, scared or unsure. It is important to discuss issues with children when they are young to ensure that they can have the best chance of understanding a situation, what will or may happen and how to deal with it.

We know that families know best how to support individual children but thought that we would share some top tips, based on advice from the National Day Nurseries Association’s Early Years Advisers, for supporting these difficult conversations with your children to help ease any worry or stress.

• Be open and honest in terms your child will understand.
• Use stories available online or make up your own about difficult things.   Include puppets and props where appropriate.
• Give children opportunities to ask question and offer them lots of reassurance.
• Use play and role modelling to help understanding and provide reassurance.

We hope that this may help some of our families.

Keep In Touch

After setting up our blog in October 2010 to provide an opportunity for families to gain an insight into the life of Nursery, we added a counter to measure the number of visitors to our site. Unfortunately, after a few years, there were problems with this so in October 2015 we added a new counter to monitor visitor numbers and we are delighted to say that we have now had 50 000 visitors in that time.
If you click on the small map, further down this page on the right, then click on ‘Locations’, you can see that we have had visitors from 62 countries which is amazing.
We really appreciate the comments on our posts as this, hopefully, helps to make it a fun, shared site for everyone.
Thank you for your support in keeping our blog active and we hope that you will leave us comments while Nursery is closed so that we can hear what everyone is doing. Click on the “How to add a comment” link on the right under Support Information for simple instructions if you are unsure how to do this. We hope that everyone is keeping safe and healthy.

Rainbow Cheer

On our last day, until further notice, those children who were in Nursery helped to make large rainbows to display in our windows. Maybe you could go a walk with someone from your family to see them, provided you are not in a large group of course? I wonder if you can find rainbows on display anywhere else in our community? We hope that the children’s wonderful bright rainbows provide a little cheer for those passing by.

Happy Mother’s Day

The children in the Rainbow Room were talking about their mothers and grandmothers towards the end of last week as they started to think about Mother’s Day. We would like to share a few examples which we hope will make you smile.

Isaac M.: I love Mummy because she gives me chips.
Berrie: I love Mummy because she always gives me big hugs.
Primrose: my Mummy takes me to the swings.
Skye C.: Mummy gives me food.
Arthur: I love Mummy because she gives me hugs.
Euan: my Mummy takes me out on my bike. We all go together with the dog.
Danielle: my Mummy makes me noodles.
Teddie: my Mummy plays outside with me and my toys.
Alex: she makes me my pasta. She gets me toys I didn’t have.
Leigha: my Mummy gives me lots of yoghurt and she lets me bring toys downstairs.
Poppy: my Mummy gives me big hugs.

We hope that you will all be especially kind to your Mums and grandmothers today.

Safe And Healthy

Friday was a sad day in Nursery as we closed, until further notice, in line with all other schools and nurseries in Scotland. Unfortunately many were not with us on Friday so we would like to wish all our children and their families good health over the weeks and months ahead.
Undoubtedly the children will continue to learn and develop in so many ways as they play with their families. We will share a few suggestions here of activities you may wish to try at home and will continue to post here when appropriate so please keep an eye on our blog.
We also still have photos of the children over the past few weeks to share and we will post them here over the coming weeks so that the children can talk to their families about them and see pictures of their friends.
We sincerely hope that Friday was not the last day in Nursery for some of our children and that we will all be back together in the not too distant future but, in the meantime, we hope that you all stay safe and healthy.
