Annan High Street

After last term’s visit to the High Street, which we shared in a recent post, the children used their photos to create their own version of Annan High Street. Initially they made pencil drawings of the buildings they saw then they developed this further by creating models based on their photos and drawings.
We think the end result speaks for itself when you see their super buildings, road and cars travelling along their High Street. Just look at the concentration on those faces! Great work everyone!

Growing Caterpillars

Last week Mrs. Mackay shared photos of the little caterpillars that had come to stay at her house. She would like to show you how much they have grown in such a short space of time and it certainly seems amazing how big they have now become.
Mrs. Mackay has also discovered that one pot of caterpillars seemed to be bigger than the other and that they started moving around sooner than the smaller ones so we will have to wait and see if they start forming their cocoons sooner.
Mrs. Mackay and her family are keeping a close on their new little visitors and we will keep us up-to-date with any news.

Have Fun With Primary 1

I wonder if any of you enjoyed Mrs. Irving recently reading  “Lucy’s Blue Day” on our blog? Miss Campbell and Mrs. Mahon thought that Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 might like to hear this story too so their children are going to listen to this animated version this week and their teachers have made a quiz for them to see if they can answer some questions about the story.

Miss Campbell and Mrs. Mahon have kindly shared their activity so that you can have a go at the same activity as Primary 1. You will have to listen well as your family reads the questions then they will help you answer the quiz. We feel sure that there will be some very good listeners out there from our Nursery who will be able to answer some Primary 1 questions.

Thank You Isaac

Mrs. Irving would like to share this message for Isaac W.:

“I was overwhelmed this morning with the kindness of Isaac and his Daddy as they dropped some delicious home baking at my door. What a generous and thoughtful act of kindness! Isaac, you have brought a huge smile to my face. Scott, Eve, Coll and I all say a big thank you!”

How lovely to hear about such kindness in our community. Isaac, your baking looks absolutely delicious and we are sure that Mrs. Irving and her family will thoroughly enjoy it. You should feel very proud of yourself for being so thoughtful and kind.

Kyla’s Super Work

Kyla has been very busy at home doing lots and lots of arts and crafts which she is thoroughly enjoying. She has loved creating her own designs to decorate these stones which we think are beautiful. Watch out for these special stones if you’re out with your family as Kyla is planning to hide them when she goes out a walk.
Thank you so much Kyla for sharing a photo of your super work which we love and for being so kind in leaving your stones for other girls and boys to find. We hope that everyone has fun looking for your beautiful stones.

Rhyme Of The Week

Our “Rhyme of the Week” is “Five Currant Buns” so you need to get your counting heads on everyone, as well as joining in with lots of super singing. Remember to hold up your fingers to show how many buns are left.

Tadpole Update

Do you remember Isaac W.’s tadpoles? Well, we’ve had an update on them from his family:

“Not much change in size at the minute just in colour. Will send in another picture when the back legs start to form. Isaac is doing a great job of checking on them and feeding them. 🙂. “

We will look forward to further developments Isaac. His family also liked the photos of their craft day:

“Fab pics, both Quinn and Isaac had great fun (so did Dad). Isaac said his is a water horse so does not need legs 🙂 “

We love your water horse and we can understand your thinking about the legs Isaac.

Isaac’s family also wanted to leave a message about our “Rhyme of the Week” video and Mrs. Kirkpatrick’s care of our planter.

Early Years Newsletter

Dumfries and Galloway Early Years Team has produced an online newsletter  which includes simple and fun play activities to support our families with play and learning at home during these challenging times. Kim’s Game

Do any of you remember playing Kim’s Game when you were younger? This is a simple, fun game to enjoy with your child at home and will develop his/her memory skills, concentration and ability to take turns.

Encourage your child to choose a small selection of items (4 – 6 initially) from around the house and sit them on a tray or a table.

Cover the objects with a towel then see how many items that your child can name.

Once they are confident to do this, ask your child to close their eyes, take one item away from under the towel and see if he/she can say what is missing.

Take turns as a family to take an object away.

If your child needs a further challenge, you could take two objects away or add to the number of items on the tray.

We hope that you have lots of fun playing together.
