Some of the children have been learning about the work of the artist Kandinsky. Paint and chalk have been used to create artwork in his style and the children have been amazed and delighted to be able to produce a piece of art that looks similar to that of a famous artist. We hope that enjoy our little Kandinsky gallery. I wonder if the children can find their own work?

How Do You Feel?
A recent focus in the Rainbow Room was on expressing our emotions, what our faces look like when we are experiencing different emotions and how we feel. We would like to share some of the children’s ideas about their feelings.
Tom: I feel happy because I love my Daddy. I feel sad because my dog died.
Alex G.: I’m happy because Lewis is here today.
Safoora: I feel happy because the sun came and Mum said I can eat ice-cream when I get home.
Danielle: Mummy and Daddy make me happy.
Jessica: I’m happy because it’s so sunny at my Nanny’s house.
Lewis: I’m happy because I went to school with my friend Evan.
Nancy: I feel tired because I woke up too early. My Mummy woke me up too early to go to school.
Zack: I felt sad when Daddy went to work.
Aoife: I feel sleepy. I woke up early to get Dad’s phone to watch Youtube.
Alexa: I’m happy because I like having sweeties.
Tiana-Rose: I feel happy because I’m going on holiday tomorrow.
Jackson: I feel sleepy because I need more sleep.
Evan W.: I feel happy because I’ve had a lovely morning in Nursery.
Stay And Play
The children love it when members of their family come in to play in Nursery and what better way is there to see what your child does during their day with us? These parents recently joined us to play and they seemed to enjoy their experience. We hope that lots more of you stay to play for an hour or two before the school year ends.
Lots Of Learning At Snack
The snack area in Nursery helps the children to develop their social skills and learn about healthy eating as well as good hygiene procedures through hand washing and tooth brushing. They can independently prepare snack and here we see some of the children in the Raindrop Room developing their fine motor skills as they chop and prepare fruit kebabs which went down very well indeed.
Well Done
Thank You Buddies
Emilia B.’s family has been looking at the photos of the children playing with their buddies:
“Emilia talks about her buddy a lot. Thanks to him and the other buddies she can’t wait to start primary school.”
I’m sure that the buddies will be delighted to hear that. We think that they are doing a great job and feel confident that the children will settle well in Primary 1.
Word Of The Week
“Word of the Week” in the Rainbow Room will be ‘floating/sinking’ and the Raindrop Room will be using the term ‘symmetry’.
Playground Buddies
As those moving to Primary 1 at Hecklegirth in August are now building relationships with their individual Primary 6 buddies, we have a timetable in place for the children to visit the school playground as well as the infant classrooms. The buddies go with our children on these playground visits to encourage and support them initially in the empty playground and then when the rest of the school is out.
We have already had two visits and Primary 6 showed impressive skills and attitude to ensure that our children had great fun and felt confident in the wider school environment. Thank you Primary 6 for doing such a super job. All the children came back to Nursery from the playground happy and confident. They are looking forward to their next visit when the rest of the school will be out to play with them.
Self-Portraits
Just like the children in the Rainbow Room, those in the Raindrop Room spent some time recently creating self-portraits which you may have noticed displayed in the Nursery. Here is a little gallery of some of their work which we hope you enjoy.

What Can You See?
The children in the Rainbow Room have been looking very closely at their faces in the mirror as they talk about what they can see and try to draw their own faces. As part of their close observation, the children decided what colour their eyes were and added a tally mark on the chart to record their findings. They found that, in their room, blue was the most common eye colour. As well as producing great drawings of their faces, we loved some of the children’s comments so would like to share them with you too.
Tiana-Rose: I have two eyes, eyes blink. Our eyes are to see. I have a tongue and teeth inside my mouth. I’ve got baby teeth. You blow noses.
Jackson: I see two eyes, a nose, a mouth, a finger, two eyebrows. I see with my eyes.
Lewis: my eyes are blue on the inside. I’ve added yellow around my eyes as it looks like skin. You close your eyes to sleep. I have two nostrils. Some people have different coloured eyes.
Euan: I eat with my mouth. My tongue is in my mouth. I see with my eyes. I listen with my ears. Look at my big enormous head.
Jake: I’ve got a big head now, a huge head. My eyes are big, mouth, teeth big, my hair’s big … big blue eyes.
Emily M: I’m making a big smiley face. I’ve got brown eyes and another colour in my eyes.
Filip: I’m bigger now … brown eyes … one, two eyes. I’m not sad, I’m happy.
